History of American Musical Theatre

Mar 5, 2008 — 5:58:30 PM

Hey guys-- I'm writing a paper for my US History class on American musical theatre. I'm not really sure exactly what my thesis is going to be, but I was thinking about the reflections of society appearing in musicals over the decades. It could go off in any direction though. I was wondering if any of you could provide me with any advice or suggestions for good websites, books, articles, etc...maybe your own knowledge. Thanks for your help!

re: Clever ways to ask boys to dances...

Hahahah, spiderdj82, I love it! That's hilarious. TOLO is just the name, really. And OLOT (TOLO spelled backwards) is later in the year when guys ask girls. Haha yeah I could just ask but the point of the asking is to be clever! During OLOT the boys do clever things as well, so it's not just a one-sided thing. That arcade game is a good idea, but there isn't a place near me that would work for that... I have a lot of time to figure it out, because there is an unwritten rule that no one can as...

Well I've already got a claim on him since we're dating, so I can wait as long as possible. Last year the way I asked a friend was by getting his favorite author to sign a book addressed to the boy. The author wrote in it asking the guy to go to TOLO with me. The whole goal is to be clever. Just asking is fun, but it's more interesting when it's a scavenger hunt or something like that. And food is always a good way to do it. A friend of mine is getting a pizza ordered to this guy in our class...

re: Anyone been to a taping of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart?

Sep 2, 2006 — 12:26:56 AM

Because I want to see it taped... why else? My mom and I are going to New York, and Jon Stewart is her favorite show. Since we don't have cable she doesn't get to watch the show very often. I was going to buy her tickets...

This is an excellent show- saw it in London a few months ago. It would be awesome if it came to Broadway!

I would choose What is This Feeling, As Long as You're Mine, For Good, No Good Deed, and The Wizard and I.

There are tons of pre-sales. KISS 106.1 has one... the code is just kiss.

re: Question about Les Miserables Cast Recordings...

Thanks for your recommendations- my dad, much to my surprise, just went out and bought the complete OBC. Although I may get more than one because I've heard good things about all of the versions. loudasthehelliwant- I suppose we are both insane.

Question about Les Miserables Cast Recordings...

May 29, 2006 — 3:13:13 PM

I'm looking to buy the Les Mis cast recording, but I can't decide whether I should buy the London or Broadway Original Cast version. Or perhaps the Highlights cd? Thanks for your recommendations. EDIT: Or maybe wait until the new Les Mis opens?
