How are you so quick!?
oh well, congrats Divas.
i bow to fellow team member JJDUDE, but contend the phrase "better known as" implies "The Pope" as a correct answer.
After all, there was only one Karol Wojtyla who became Pope. It's not like there were two, with different Papal names, who began a Theatre called Rhapsodic.
The Pope as of the time of the question was J. Ratzinger.
Your team won, and you get credit for playing. But the insurance underwriters of the cash prize insist on specifics. hehe.
You're right about the Pope of the moment in 1941/1942, but Karol was not known as any name but his own "as of the time of the question." Neither John Paul II nor Pope. "better known as" referred to his notoriety after becoming Pope.
Ratzinger was the Pope at the time the question was asked.
To me, the answer "The Pope" sounds like it refers to Ratzinger, the current Pope.
You won, anyway!
i know our team won, i just like words and semantics.
When the question was asked (though it referred to 1941) we were just deciding who was Pope (since the question was asked today). The reference of 1941 was about the theatre this person started, not how this person was "better known as"...he wasn't "better known as" either "the Pope" or "Pope John Paul II" until 1978, which is neither now nor 1941. It's all in how you define "better"; after 1978, many Catholics might know Karol Wojtyla as "Pope John Paul II" but the majority of the world knew him as "the Pope". Just like we refer to the current person in the White House as "the President" without always using a formal name. So for the majority of the world's population, from 1978 to 2005, he could be said to be "better known as" the Pope.
Oct. 16, 1978 -- Cardinal Karol Wojtyla of Krakow is elected pope and takes the name John Paul II. He is the first Pole to be elected pope and the first on-Italian pontiff in 455 years.

see what i mean?
I enjoy the fact that by volunteering to run this silly game, I've opened myself to semantic assault.
not trying to assault at all; i just like thinking things through. i accept that you choose the other answer as correct, but the debater in me responded to the logic of the reason why.
Not everything has to be adversarial. Civil discussion is a good thing.
That link is stretching the page.
As the producer of the game, I have the final say.
I liked my semantic "trap" and I knew that someone would fall into it.

ckeaton and tx i love you both! glad we got immunity again kids seeing as i couldn't be here at 1... anyway, see you all tonight for immunity again!
tx, wicked jealous that you're in falsettos right now... who are you? i have the opportunity to be in it next year and i will be very upset if i can't!
you guys should all join my game!!!!! :)
CK, your graphic for the game had already stretched the thread from the first post.
i just saw FALSETTOS, no need for envy.
i'm not so sure it was a "trap" so much as ambigously worded and fuzzily rationalized, on either side.
when will the standings be updated? JJ should get his due as the last correct answer winning our team immunity. Is there a game tonight at 7?
EDIT: meaning 8 pm EST
Yeah there will be questions in a half hour. I hope they go right up at 8 though, I don't wanna stay at work any longer than I have to.

yeah, JJ and DARCEY, we did it again. Thanks, CK. Diva-licious!
Carl Magnum, you missed by seconds. Literally. But you were correct also!
oh, and to the best sport on The Ovations, ELPHIE, sorry about that. i bet i see you in the final four, however!
MAGNUM is indeed a formidable foe. i wonder at what point the tribes will have to merge?
If there is a merge, it would occur in the next 1 to 3 rounds. There may be another twist coming though!
Congratulations to the teams.
Probst is very excited to see alliances forming.
