I watched the trailer ... the movie is going to kill me ... as in make me cry .. I can feel it.
As much as I loved THE CONSTANT GARDNER, I can't see it scoring a best picture nomination - same with the excellent CINDERELLA MAN and the banal CRASH.
i know i cnat deside if i wanna take my girls to see it, or see it alone cus i'm gonna cry buckets

Crash is going to score a nomination for sure (Although it won't win) because it has really really touched a nerve and is very very popular.
My own personal favorite film of the year, however, will probably be either Capote or Brokeback Mountain.
My friends are dubbing this movie BAREBACK MOUNTAIN.
I have some pretty f*ed up friends!
You honestly think CRASH will score a best picture nomination at the Oscars? I would almost bet everything against that. Golden Globe, maybe - but Oscar? No.
yeah it could
i mean GHOST got one
Look at what else opened the same year as GHOST.
GHOST is something entirely different than CRASH - GHOST isn't a presumptuous, mish-mosh of morals that takes itself too seriously for it's own good.
I'm not saying it's impossible - I'm just saying it's hardly guaranteed with all the amazing movies opening this year.
munk--I'd be willing to place a bet with you that Crash does get either a Best Picture or Best Director nomination. It's very likely to get both!
It will definitely be nominated for its writing.
I guess this will just be another year of great debates over the noms.
I guess we just completely disagree. I wasn't fooled or taken in by it. It was just so blatantly choppy and misguided, I'm really surprised so many people fell for it.
I disagree - maybe best screenplay - hopefully not direction, and I will bet that it will NOT score a best picture nomination. There are too many greater things opening. Since I've seen CRASH, I think I've already seen 5 other films that are better.
munk,
what makes you think the filmmakers of CRASH were trying to "fool anyone"? why do you feel they were trying to fool anyone at all?
they were simply telling us a story about how our own society's prejudices affects the way we interact with others and the consquences of those actions.

i will say however that BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN looks like a very put together film. i hope it lives up to the film. it helps the screenplay was co-written by larry mcmurty, an author and screenwriter i have great respect for.
i just saw the trailer. anne hathaway looks incredibly beautiful in this. i wonder how the general public will receive this film.
I didn't mean "fool" in that sense at all. I should have said, I didn't buy into it.
I know what the story is about - and I know what it actually turned out to be. The movie was great for about half of it - then they go out of control and really started loosing sight.
Oh okay. That's cool. Just wanted to know where you were coming from.
Well now that it is clearly on record, can you please spare us a dissertation on why Crash sux everytime it is mentioned or nominated? We have 5 long months ahead of us.
Thank you
