In decluttering my house for a move, I found a trove of bizarre treasures -- including the infamous CBS movie that landed on cable, THE REAGANS. Skimming through, I was startled how stunning Jame Brolin was in this role. He approximates both the look and the infamous intonations but it's no cheeseball caricature. He gets inside his skind. Brolin's a good actor -- now known for extreme moments in a shadowy career, i.e. the crazed possessed husband of Margot Kidder in AMITYVILLE HORROR and finally Mr. Streisand. Give the guy another role -- he deserves one. As for La Davis, she can do anything, Garland, Woody's best work, and here, even if she's nothing like the Nancita we know, she brings her powerhouse focus and investment -- and thanks to a great wardrobe and wigmaker, approximates the look. Not a great MOW (no QUEEN OF MEAN), but compelling work by these two.
