Liza lost a band member. Gerry Niewood (flute, clarinet, sax) played in Liza's band, her conductor Mike Berkowitz's Gene Krupa Band, and some others including Chuck Mangione's. He and Mangione bandmate Coleman Mellet (guitar) were flying up for a Mangione show tonight with the Buffalo Philharmonic.

I heard that on the news, Yawper. So sad.

Just learned that four of the victims were from our town in NJ, and one was a 13 year-old student who attended the same middle school as my youngest daughter. He died along with both his parents and an aunt. I don't know the family by name, and when my daughter gets back from shopping I'll have to see if she knew the boy who died (there are over 1,000 kids in the school, so it's not a given that she knew him well).
