Posted: 1/15/08 at 5:30pmWell, MP, again I get the sense that Burton and Carter were, in a way, making fun of the kinds of people like the ones you mention in your post. I'm sure it was meant as tongue-in-cheek.

Oh, God, are we now giving the test to MP's kid?
What MP describes is clearly insulting, I hate it when people do the whole "are you worried?", "you should do something about it before it's too late," etc. It's absurd, homophobic, hateful, and insanely ignorant.
What Carter said was funny and adorable. Love the woman.

Also, nothing is going to "make" my son gay. He either is or he isn't. And frankly, it's none of my business.
(Oh, and he LOVES musicals, too.)

I have an 11 year old only child son. One morning I went in bathroom to find my Clinique blush had been tampered with. I mean like dug into with ruts and everything. Now, mind you, I would not have given one rat's a@@, but this was Clinique - not really too cheap. Anyway - called son in and said did you mess with my blush. He blushed himself and said yes, and all I said was that cost too much to play with. He then whispered to me, "And I put some on!" That made me laugh out loud. I said -that part's OK but just don't ruin it. When I told my no show tune knowing husband about this, he got a little disturbed, but I set him straight so to speak. What's a little makeup between family members! Am I afraid that I'll make him gay? No. He is either born gay or straight, but I'd perfer the gay because then maybe the stereotype gay son will take care of aging mother!!!!!!! All of this is tongue in cheek. I only want one thing for my son - and it's all I've ever wanted for him.
TO BE HAPPY and HEALTHY!

Posted: 1/15/08 at 7:27pmI know someone who wasn't allowed to go to a performing arts high school because his parents didn't want him to be gay. Appararently his older brother "came out" right before the younger brother was to enter high school. The father is a doctor. Clearly the boy is gay but he told his parents he was bi-sexual to "soften the blow" in his opinion. He was also scared because the parents hadn't spoken to his older brother since he came out. This kid is VERY smart and wins thespians awards because he is very talented. What a shame- thinking that going to a regular high school will "protect" their son from what he was born to be.

Thank you for the kind words. In school and throughout my career I have gotten feedback and positive reinforcement about my work, but parenting? There's no one to say, "You deserve a raise" or "We're giving you a promotion." So I appreciate the compliments very much.
BTW, when I got home from work, I asked my son what his favorite Disney movie was and he said, "Mary Poppins, Cinderella and Toy Story."
I have no idea what the "test" is, but that was his answer.

I have my usual tangerines and I walk around the corner and suddenly they're melons.
God, I love that woman. She was the best part about Sweeney Todd.
MP, Your boy sounds adorable, and you seem to be an amazing parent.

We were on the train to New York a couple of weeks ago, and when the conducter came to collect our tickets, my son handed his over and announced, "I like Barbies!"
I hope he's never afraid to tell people who he really is.
