The real slap in the face is how he's twisting the meaning of the word, compassion.

That, and the fact that what he's saying makes no sense. When does something like compassion need to be protected? Like charity, you've either got it or ya don't. "I'm going to protect compassion by ruining the lives of those who don't believe in it!"

But the best part of that, Blue Wizard, is that he's trying to ruin something which should be treated WITH compassion.
So, his straight, male, married self is showing that the institution of marriage does nothing for fostering feelings of compassion for other people.
Unless you're a fundamentalist Christian.
And married.
And rich.
And white.

I guess Bush was inspired by the sanctity of the married pornographer and his porn-star wife who attended the fund-raising dinner where he spoke. As long as you're straight, you can be a whore or a murderer or a child-molester and get married. The only "sin" in the Bible that does not allow matrimony is homosexuality. At least, that's what they say. But they will never directly acknowledge that that is what they are really saying.

As a Southerner I do want to say this. Please do not think that everyone in the South is a Southern Baptist nut being courted by the hatemongering likes of that illiterate Texas buffoon. There are many people and places in the South that are very accepting.

NM, I'm a southerner, too, but sort of a reformed Yankee now.
I grew up in a hotbed of hatred and mistrust and, when I pass through there, I see, for the most part, that same willingness to close their eyes and accept what is shoved down our throats by those in charge.
