re: Bush or Kerry

I'm just gonna skip the logical and truthful argument and skip right to front: let me guess, you're a Democrat and the possibility of your party being remotely relatable to the Republican party is such a HORRID thought. Get over it. Both parties are controlled by big business constituencies. And the REAL truth is that both parties actively suppress third parties because they don't want to lose their monopolies on the election. By the way, you say you don't think the American people want more options than the ones they are given: this year, among newly registered voters, 70 PERCENT of them registered as Independent. Facts are facts. Speculation is speculation.
Word. Word, indeed.

re: Bush or Kerry

Democrats are only opposed to thrid parties because Nader is a main reason Bush won last time.

It's a case of not wanting to take their own medicine. How quickly we forget that is was that little weasel Ross Perot who gave us eight year of Bill Clinton.

"Facts are facts. Speculation is speculation."

And this topic is old and tired.
I sing for myself. I sing when I want, whenever I want to, just for me. I sing for my own pleasure. Do you understand that?

True. It's dead. Trying to convince people of anything politically on a message board is a tad ridiculous. re: Bush or Kerry
Thanks for the lively conversation folks. See ya on another topic. re: Bush or Kerry

re: Bush or Kerry

I said they're close to each other, but they aren't exactly each other. It has nothing to do with my politics. And I'm an independent, dammit.

What I will say for the U.S. party system, which makes it quite different from that of Europe, I think, is that both parties take much of the system as a given and work from there. I think that's what frustrates a lot of people on the far right and left here, but I can't say it's all bad. It's given us plenty of stability so far.

Maybe a third party is what we need. But we certainly don't need it to be on the far left or right- I'd prefer a party that saw the politics is more of a blob than a straight line, and chose its own chunk of the blob to populate. :)
