Buying my girlfriend a ring...

Buying my girlfriend a ring...

If you couldn't tell from the thread title, I'm thinking about buying my girlfriend a ring for her birthday (April). Her birthday is also three days before our nine-month anniversary of being together. Now, I need some opinions from you guys.

There's this ring:
Buying my girlfriend a ring...
...from, ahem, WalMart. Or this one, from my buddy overstock.com:
Buying my girlfriend a ring...

Which of those two rings do you like? Or are both terrible, and should I get a Cubic Zirconia (the April birth month stone) ring instead? Or is it too forward of me to buy her a ring, and should I just forget it completely and give her this cute, fuzzy bear instead? Help me! I'm just a clueless lesbian, I can't make big decisions like this! Updated On: 2/3/05 at 08:00 PM

Well first you have to make sure her preference: is all her other jewelry gold, or silver? One of my biggest pet peeves is where people wear silver earring, and gold necklace, and various rings - it just doesn't look good, so make sure if you're getting gold (plated,) that she has a lot of gold. Personally, I'm not a fan of those rings. But I'm not your gilfriend, and I'm not a girl. I would say until you have money to get her a really nice ring, get her something more cute and meaningful. I know I always prefer more personal unique things, but that's me. How long have you been together? That's also a good indicator.

If your g/f is a simple kind of person, go with the first one. If she tends to go her own way and likes to stand out, go with the second one. The fact that the second one is not symmetrical, to me, gives off a unique highlight to the altogether ring. They are both gorgeous, and either one you pick will be loved--personally, I like the second one better, b/c of the gold accent around the heart. Just make sure u plan it right and don't make it seem like you're proposing...lol! Good luck!

If it were me, I would choose the first one. I prefer symmetry in my jewelry. But, of course, that's just me. Good luck!

Munkustrap - most of the necklaces of hers I've seen are silver, and she doesn't wear any other rings, as far as I know. Her ears aren't pierced, so no need to worry about clashing with earrings. And last month was our six-month anniversary.

Winokur - oh, she likes to stand out. I never thought of finding a ring to compliment her personality! re: Buying my girlfriend a ring... And, as much as I wish I could propose...sigh. Not old enough, and not like we could get married, anyway. re: Buying my girlfriend a ring...

ETA: Caroline, that's beautiful! Oh, now you're making me even more indecisive...and I have to run off to look at lavender rings... Updated On: 2/3/05 at 08:11 PM

I like the first deisgn better than the second, and the blue better than the green.

Personally, I like the first one better- but this isn't about me. And since she likes to stand out, as Winkour_fan said, I'd go with the second. It's the thought that counts anyway, and I'm sure she'll love whatever you give her.

First of all, that is very thoughtful and loving of you to give her a ring for her Birthday. She will love it! :) It takes a wonderful boyfriend to do that!

I personally like the second one, cause it's a tad more whimsical, but thats just me.

Holy Smokes, Liam! It's pretty, but nothing (in my opinion) is pretty enough to be worth that much!

Eponine - does that "wonderful" bit still count if I'm a girlfriend too? re: Buying my girlfriend a ring...

Unforunately, yes. I'm shooting for under $100, which means no diamonds.

ETA: Liam, darling, let me make this clear - I can't give her a wedding set. That would infer that I'm proposing. Updated On: 2/3/05 at 08:31 PM
