Posted: 2/3/05 at 8:56pmI like the walmart heart-shapped rings, I think they're very pretty, but I love simplisity in jewlry. They're both nice though. I do like all the color options on the ones from WalMart. Just pick it out based on her, and you'll be fine. Its a very sweet gesture. Updated On: 2/3/05 at 08:56 PM

Posted: 2/3/05 at 10:48pmI would reccomend getting her a birthstone ring if it's a birthday gift.

I agree. I'm sure your girlfriend will love anything you give her truly. It's the thought that counts and that being said I'm sure she'll love anything you give her.
When's her birthday?
#28re: Buying my girlfriend a ring...
Posted: 2/3/05 at 11:52pmThat could make things more difficult, since April's birthstone is the diamond. Of course, you can get a very nice ring with a stone that *looks* like a diamond...

Sorry, idk how to make more than one link title at a time...so you get the whole URL!! Teehee. These are some of the rings that I found that I think are awesome
http://www.jewelrytelevision.com/estore/product.asp?up=Gift%20Center&product_id=GST133L-7 This ring is very simplistic yet classy. $100 dollars.
http://www.zales.com/catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?productID=20121405&queryby=c&categoryId=1&pageNum=0&sortType=rank_over+asc+%2crank+asc&newFilter=Style%3aRing&parentSearchId=0&gnFlag=1 This one's for my goofy pleasures...I'm working on my uncle to get my this ring, I think it's just gorgeous and unlike any other that I have seen--but I'm guessing a little to rich for your budget.
http://www.jewelrytelevision.com/estore/product.asp?up=Gift%20Center&product_id=TCM001-5 I think this is very unique, and still very stunning. It's cheaper though, Idk if you'd call it "cheap" looking though, it's all a matter of opinion.
http://www.zales.com/catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?productID=16444374&queryby=c&categoryId=1&pageNum=1&sortType=Price+ASC&newFilter=Style%3aRing&parentSearchId=0&gnFlag=1 Here is another one...I like this one, but again it'd be the personal taste thing.
http://www.zales.com/catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?productID=15145410&queryby=c&categoryId=1&pageNum=2&sortType=Price+ASC&newFilter=Style%3aRing&parentSearchId=0&gnFlag=1 This one's on sale for $100. I feel it is very classy but safe.
http://www.zales.com/catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?productID=15003528&queryby=c&categoryId=1&pageNum=3&sortType=Price+ASC&newFilter=Style%3aRing&parentSearchId=0&gnFlag=1 Does she like sapphires? A very beautiful ring.
http://www.zales.com/catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?productID=15772809&queryby=c&categoryId=1&pageNum=2&sortType=Price+ASC&newFilter=Style%3aRing&parentSearchId=0&gnFlag=1 I think this is my favorite (besides the one with all the scattered diamonds). It is very unique, and not something you are going to show your friends and end up saying "oh...you have it too..." Also on sale for $100!
Not that I don't love the rings you picked out...these are just more options!! She's gonna love w/e u get her!

I like the first one a lot. Very pretty.
My boyfriend got me a ring for my birthday last year... I wear it all the time. The thought and the sneaking around he had to do to find out my ring size made it all that much more special to me.

Ooooooooooooh that kind of funny.... you'll have to forgive me -- it was that kind of day at work today haha Stuff like that doesn't usually fly over my head!
Yeah, it was very cute and very sweet.. I still wear it all the time even though I've lost weight since last year and it no longer fits my ring finger.
Back to the topic at hand, I still vote for the first ring

"most of the necklaces of hers I've seen are silver, and she doesn't wear any other rings, as far as I know"
This might be worth examining a little closer...you said that she doesn't wear rings. That could mean that she just doesn't have any, OR it *could* mean that she doesn't like wearing them. There is also the problem of knowing what size to buy...
You *do* know that she wears necklaces. If it were me, I would probably buy a pendant that displays the same sentiment as the ring. She can wear it on the chain it comes with, or switch it over to a different length chain that she already owns. Seems safer. In my experience, you can usually get "more" for your money with a pendant than a ring.
Just a thought.

iflit is absolutely correct.
Go with a pendant. A lovely blue stone on a silver chain will look stunning (especially with a tan!)
And, remember, a ring is definitely sending a signal...one neither of you might be ready for. A pendant is a simple, loving gesture!
Edited to say:
So...I'm a sucker for a romantic, so I searched for you. Turns out April's birthstone is diamond (luck you). I found this on overstock.com. It's very sweet and under $100. Of course, you can get a larger stone with Cubic Zirconia, but this is a lovely look that will flatter all types of women.

And here's something a little more like the rings you were looking at.
#43re: Buying my girlfriend a ring...
Posted: 2/4/05 at 11:35amI'm a girl-lovin'-girl - and I'm also a sucker for jewelry from my girlfriend. Rings mean a lot, they're very special. If she wears silver jewelry, get her a silver or white-gold ring. I like the top one of the two you have there...but again, make sure it's a color she wears/likes a lot.

OR if the birthstone idea isn't working, how about the stone form the month that your relationship began (August, if my math is right...)? August would be peridot; September sapphire.
Go to the QVC site. You can search on particular gemstones there. And as much as it kills me to admit it, shopping from that website is incredibly easy, and the things I've bought have been quite nice. But if nothing else, it's a good way to get ideas.

Captain_Obvious, you sound just like me haha
Im a sucker for T&Co myself.... actually, I just said 'happy new job to me' with a pretty new ring from there.... but I digress lol
I agree that if she tends to wear silver, go with a silver or white gold ring. I don't wear a lot of gold myself -- even though I do like it -- silver looks better on me.

Posted: 2/4/05 at 12:00pmSilver looks better on me too. I don't like gold. Too tacky. Silver's subtle and sophisticated. (Not to mention the employees at Tiffany's are about as hot as the jewelery.)

Oh, wow! Thank you, Winokur, for all those suggestions! That second-to-last one is beautiful...
I've been off-handedly asking her favorite colors and so on, so I've got an idea of colors...and I thought the birth stone for April was Cubic Zirconia? Well, we can pretend it is for the sake of money. I've actually got two Cubic Zirconia rings in my favorites...
But I think I'll probably get the - ahem - WalMart one. Money is a huge issue right now, though I do have 'til April to save up. Actually, right now, I should be worrying about what kind of chocolates and flowers to get her for Valentine's Day. Any suggestions?
#48re: Buying my girlfriend a ring...
Posted: 2/4/05 at 7:19pmI would find out (if you don't already know) what her favorite chocolates are and get her a little box and get a nice card. I think it's really sweet of you to be really thinking about her like that.

Posted: 2/4/05 at 9:25pmIdk how wide spread the Bernstein’s Candy industry is...but their melt-aways are to-die-for!! Literally, and not too expensive either. Care to spring $28 for a dozen white (or red) chocolate roses? Now that would make me melt if I got those for V-day. http://www.candydirect.com/bouquets/bouquets8.html This site has some cute candy gifts for V-day.
