Borstal, you have no idea how much I wanted to go through my computer screen to slap people who were making internet comments blaming everything from her gender to her skin/hair color as to why it happened. Of course she and plenty of other foreign correspondents knew the risks when they take the job as her track record showed, she is very familiar of reporting in hostile territory. Doesn't make this news any less horrible but it also doesn't mean that because she is a woman from the West she or other women are DQ'd from reporting an event like Egypt ever again. That was a good Salon article, btw. I always enjoyed Logan on 60 Minutes and hope she recovers but the unfiltered criticisms now, of all times, is pretty jarring.

My question is: was CBS keeping this quiet due to Ms. Logan's privacy or were they keeping it quiet because it doesn't fit in with the story they are trying to paint over there?

Anderson Cooper and others were knocked around; Katie and Brian fled. But we're being fed the story that these are just oppressed people trying to loosen themselves from a cruel dictator.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I think CBS was respecting her privacy but some other publication wanted to exploit the story so they probably in swift time put together a press release to beat the clock, hopefully with Logan's okay.

Won't comment any further of what may have happened to her until something definitive pops up.

Leave it to Goth to make it about something it's not. No one really knows the details of what happened. And to connect this incident, after a period of over two weeks with basically no law enforcement, to the movement as a whole is idiotic. For all we know this act could have been committed by pro-Mubarak thugs that committed all the other attacks that you mentioned in your post.

I'm not "making" it about anything. I'm just curious if they attacked this woman because they are anti-American or anti-women and the press won't report that. Or whether she and Cooper and the others just happened to get roughed up because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Pardon me Goth for assuming that you were trying to imply that the crowds celebrating in Tahir Square were really American hating pro rape misogynsts (like all Muslims!) and the lame stream media just getting the story wrong. I thought you might be trying to make this into a "told you so" moment.

I'm not implying the media got it wrong. I'm asking is the media not reporting everything and are they slanting the news to promote a specific ideology.

Well it doesn't sound like you're implying the media got it right. My guess? CBS didn't release the info right away because she had just be the victim of a "brutal and sustained sexual assualt" and they wanted to give her and her family some privacy. Now she's has to deal with people finger pointing and stories like this before she's even out of the hospital.

CBS policy is not to identify the victim in the case of sexual assault. They released it because other news outlets were reporting it. There is no slant. Politics have nothing to do with it.

And why do they have this policy? Well, read some of the stories to see.

And I do not understand how ANY political view can inspire you to minimize or trivialize the trauma of rape.

I've been told by someone who speaks Arabic that it wouldn't make sense that they would yell out the English word "Jew." If anything it would be the Arabic word for Jew, which is "Yahood."

She said that the worst thing you can call anyone--much worse than "khanzeer" (pig or hog)--is "Yahood."

"Ibn-el-yahoodi" ("son of a Jew") is the most common insult, the way we say "son of a bitch."

So it wouldn't have been that they were attacking Lara because they thought she was Jewish. It would have been that they would call anyone they were attacking "Yahood," the way a gang here might call someone they were beating up "faggot."

Or it could be what Namo said.
