cnn headline news' thomas roberts comes out...and then his show gets cancelled.
roberts reportedly had come out slowly over the years at cnn and was recently a panel speaker at the national lesbian and gay journalists association conference in miami. he spoke of his partner at the september conference and remarked that being a panel speaker at the event was the biggest step he had taken in being out in public.
just days later, however:
CNN Headline News scraps afternoon newscast

CNN Headline News said Monday it will eliminate its 4-6 p.m. ET newscast in order to bolster its editorial resources elsewhere. Co-anchors Thomas Roberts and Kathleen Kennedy will remain at the cable news channel in as-yet-unspecified roles.
To fill the time, two newscasts will be increased by an hour each. Those are newscasts anchored by Christi Paul and Mike Galanos, and by Chuck Roberts and Linda Stouffer.

They would never "openly" cancel his newscast with the reason being his openness about being gay. CNN has lawyers to tell them how to word these things without telling the real truth.

Roberts had actually already publicly acknowledged that he struggled with his sexuality as a teen (not the same as coming out, I realize). He also testified against a priest who abused him....
