Javero - what makes the mental makeup and temper of a possible CIC off-limits?
In these times, where thoughtful action rather than brute force and over-reaction is needed, I would think that this is a highly relevant question.
I have no idea what kind of psychological damage was done to him when he was a POW - does he/did he suffer from PTS? How is his memory today? Is he qualified to have his "finger on the button."
I think both questions are fair game - and I want them answered.

i don't think he's saying it's off limits, ywiw, i think he's saying it would be political suicide to try to attack johnny mac on those grounds because it plays right into his wheelhouse.
no matter how the questions are framed the answers will allow mccain to frame himself - again - as the american hero. well, to everyone but the far left. but mark my words, if someone goes there it will play to his advantage no matter how it's framed.
but please, have some 527 - or better yet, the democrat's nominee - bring it up. see how it goes. i'd guess a minimum 5 point bump in head to heads and a net gain of at least 10 in favorability will follow.

He is an American hero - but not one who is competent, at this point in his life, to be President.
No candidate would raise the issue, but I could see his temper (if not his treatment at the hands of the Viet Cong) being used in ads against him.
I honestly do not think the man is fit for the CIC role - his is a hot head, and we have no idea of what he really believes in any more.
It is funny that the republicans can attack Max Cleland and succeed, based upon false statements and innuendo, but facts cannot be used against McCain.

Papa, that's cool.
I used to like McCain, when he seemed to have principles - but his flip flopping and pandering have led me to the conclusion that he is either whoring himself out to the far right, or that he has no memory of his recent positions.
Either alternative is not something I like.
I also think that we need leaders who think about the future, and not the past - McCain is all about the past to me.
I think he is a hero to this country, and deserves respect for his service and sacrifice. But, his failure to hold any consistent view, first he was against the war, before he was for it, he loves immigrants then he hates them, he knows nothing about the economy but was involved in the SL disaster - he was against the Bush tax cuts, and is now for them, he was against waterboarding, then it was OK, he supports the troops, but will not fund a new GI Bill.. makes me believe that he is an absolute wildcard whose conduct in office cannot be predicted.
There are some republicans I could vote for - even though I disagree with them on social issues - McCain - I have no idea what he believes, and that is a problem.

The lamb is already gonna be dead.

Eh. I don't believe that negativity.
Record enrollment, more passion than Democrats have seen since 1968--all that's needed is Clinton/Obama unity ticket, and the media will be reporting on the stunning surge of the Democratic party in the presidential race as well as Congressional and Senatorial races across the country.

interestingly enough, in 1968 the gop had a similar situation to what y'all got now. reagan was ahead in the popular vote due to his win in california - where only he appeared on the ballot!! nixon won on the first ballot at the convention.
c'mon, pj, both of them were dead months before nixon even had the nomination.
