well... my family is leaving our beloved Houston because of that 'ho Rita...
we're very worried about our house and belongings, we'll be in New York City with family until the power is back in houston and we can get home.
Anyone else being displaced by Rita?

sorry to hear that Caroline.......here's hoping Rita skips you!

Posted: 9/21/05 at 2:53pmi was watching the news this morning (HISD is shut down) and the overly cheery meterologist was saying that though we've been lucky before, Rita is not gonna skip Houston and we're probably gunna get the brunt of the wind and rain. It's already a Category 4 and its still hundreds of miles from Houston... chances are it'll get up to Category 5 by the time it reaches us, we're just very worried that our house/neighborhood will be destroyed and Continental will cancel the flights

you know, living in earthquake country I can relate....but earthquakes give no warning, so it must truly be horrible to have to watch it unfold, and then leave your home....and wonder.
I hope a miracle happens and it weakens.........or at least if the worst happens, let's hope Houston and the US Gov't is more prepared than they were for Katrina.....

Posted: 9/21/05 at 3:02pmthey've already evacuated Galveston, which is good and there's already a voluntary evacuation of Harris (houston) County. We're leaving tomorrow. I don't think it will be as bad as Katrina simply because houston more spread out, and not below sea level, still they say it will be much worse than Alicia

I know she's a lesbian. Is that the same excuse they give when hurricanes hit San Francisco?
For the record, nothing has ever happened during a Dallas Gay Pride event.

Posted: 9/21/05 at 3:20pmdo the evangelicals need to make sense? no. as long as they can blame every natural disaster on the gays than they're happy... since when did they need logic to back up their claims?

boobs, you are probably refering to something Pat Robertson was supposed to have said, but it was proved that it was never said.
There are several threads on this buried here somewhere

Did I say hurricanes? I meant earthquakes. Oops.
And I know hurricanes don't exist on the west coast. They're called tsunamis. Where's that "t" come from anyway?

Priest - are you and your family evacuating? I know that you were helping out some of the NO evacuees and I think you are in the Houston area. If so, I hope you all are and will be safe and sound.
I will keep a good thought for all of you.

Rita Swirls Into 165-Mph Monster in Gulf
AP - 1 hour, 3 minutes ago
GALVESTON, Texas - As many as 1 million people were ordered to clear out along the Gulf Coast, and hospital and nursing home patients were evacuated Wednesday as Hurricane Rita turned into a Category-5, 165-mph monster that could slam Texas by the weekend and inflict more misery on New Orleans. Forecasters said Rita could be the most intense hurricane on record ever to hit Texas, and easily one of the most powerful ever to plow into the U.S. mainland. Category 5 is the highest on the scale, and only three Category 5 hurricanes are known to have hit the U.S. mainland - most recently, Andrew, which smashed South Florida in 1992.
