I've been searching for good conservatories of acting in which I can get a simple BA/BFA to back up my career. I've been mainly looking in New York, although I live in virginia. Recently, however, I came across a site that said, "The Shenandoah Conservatory is currently ranked number 2 for Musical Theatre..."
First on the list was CCM and third was Boston Conservatory. Is this true?
This could make a big difference in my decision on where to go next with my life, especially considering I'm living IN the Shenandoah Valley of Virgina.
Thank you all for your help.

I'd be wary of ratings like that. Chances are that it was Shenandoah who stated that.
Fact is, there aren't any real ratings for MT schools. There are many which are considered to be top tier programs, but Shenandoah isn't one of them. The best thing to do is to research as many as possible and find out what is the best fit for you. Check out CC's MT forum and you'll find more information than you could possibly ever want or need! It's the most reliable source out there and I can tell you from being a frequent reader of that site that Shenandoah is rarely mentioned at all, let alone as the "ranked number 2 for musical theatre".

I went to Shenandoah about ten years ago. It was a very strong, not very well known program then. I imagine it's grown since. Definately worth looking into if you want a lot of personal attention, a beautiful campus, and a great supportive college experience. There are a number of SU grads on Broadway at the moment.

One of my good friends is a MT major at Shenandoah, I'll PM you with his contact info as soon as I get his OK.
I just recently auditioned here for acting. I got terrible vibes from the place the moment I stepped on the campus. During the pre-audition lecture, the guy actually had the gall to say, "you know, this business is practically impossible to break into, you're going to have to learn how to do something else to support yourself." BS!!!! You most certainly can support yourself as an actor if you're smart about it!!! Then he proceeded to admit that the alumni were mostly working in Dinner Theaters around Winchester(the absoulte sticks of VA) and that the business side of acting was not part of the curriculum. I've already been accepted here, but I would rather go to a community college for a year and then transfer somewhere else than waste my time and money at such an awful place!!!
