This is definitely the nicest July I have experienced in the 9 years I've been in DC! Went out for a bike ride out to Hains Point at 6:00 this morning. It was wonderful. Now off to work

I gathered from FB that yesterday was not fun and games at the office for you. Sorry.
At least you'll look forward to the weekend even more than usual.

Posted: 7/10/09 at 9:13amThe other day was a day of massive layoffs. Two assistants in my department, as well as 13 others were let go. It was a sad day.

Posted: 7/10/09 at 9:20amYipes! That hurts. We had layoffs here in June. My daughter works downtown for an architectural design firm and they had 3 rounds of layoffs from November through April. They're down to bare bones right now and waiting for an up-tick in the Fall.

Posted: 7/10/09 at 9:57amBluemoon, that was our 5th round in a little over a year. Needless to say, the mood here is quite gloom. Hope to get out of here early today.

Dottie, we had a chunk of layoffs announced last month - this round totaled almost 300 people in the US, and about 150 in the Division I work with (which is the biggest one). The sad thing is that some very quality people were impacted - people you thought exceptions might be made if their location was impacted. It iwas like they decided to use a chainsaw to cut head count without considering impact. No one feels safe now.
Crazy times.

Posted: 7/10/09 at 10:44amYWIW, wow that's horrible. There were people let go during this latest go-round that I thought would have been safe. We all knew it was going to happen, so everyone was speculating who'd be let go. I even figured I would be, because of my salary. Now no one speaks, the phones don't ring, and it's absolutely eery here.

Another sleepless night. I'm very grumpy.
That said, HAPPY FRIDAY!
And Hi, Dottie. Always a pleasure to see you here.

I'm baking a cake for you too, Moony. Really.
And I'm going to have a memorial party - I mean service - for my dear, departed tooth. Which can't depart soon enough. Wanna come?

Hi D2, so sorry to hear about your tooth and your pain. Gosh, I hope you feel better soon!
Bluemoon, people keep asking when I'm going to bring in a cake to cheer everyone up. I told them I can't bake when I'm feeling sad. I'll try on Sunday.

When is the big day, Deet?
And didn't the dentist give you anything for pain until it comes out? 3 or 4 Advil will do the trick, since J2 won't help.
