That manor looks like fun! I love giraffes. So graceful.
Q - come on out! We're actually going with a very dear friend that's an experienced outdoorsman - he's been teaching youth about outdoor survival skills for years. We just figured we should have _some_ preparation before going.
btw - I was in that zoo! I loved it.
DD, I was just looking up pictures of Glacier Peak, and it is breathtaking!
I did alot of hiking and backpacking near the Aspen area a few summers ago. Such beauty!
I must go to that zoo!

DD - you have NO idea how much I'd love to! This summer has become so ridiculously booked that we're having to make decisions about what we just have to miss - NOT how I like life to be
Plus, an old friend has been on a trip through Grand Canyon back-country and sharing pics - which has made me cry with memory and longing.
Addy - Glacier Peak has held my interest for a long time - I love volcanoes (I believe it is one of the "most like to erupt" ones) and isolation; we used to be able to see it from my old house. In the distance. Very, very small.
Sounds like heaven, DD!
You have to promise to take lots of pictures!

This is a sample of the type of pics my friend is sharing. I looked at things like this every day for 5 years, and there are times I miss it so much it actually hurts.
Addy - I used to live outside Aspen up by the Maroon Bells (just under 10,000 feet!) Another one of my heavens on earth
It's pretty.
Well, I'd love to stay and play, but I can't saute and type.

I have friends right now on vacation down in the Canyon, up in Mendocino, and at Pismo Beach (just below San Louis Obispo) - and they're all sending me these beautiful pictures! As beautiful as it is right now here at home, my wanderlust is SCREAMING for attention!!!
I love Maroon Bells. That's where I did alot of hiking. And snowmobiling in the winter!
I have serious wanderlust at the moment.
Q - my ideal road-trip this summer will hopefully be a loop to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Staircase Escalante, Joshua Tree, Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival, Crater Lake, and the backside of Mt. Helen's, with a detour to SoCal to see friends and family (hint hint) and Sta. Cruz to see family. It all depends on Annie auditions though.

One of the best summer weekends of my life:
Hiking along the summit trails around Aspen/Snowmass.
Sleeping on the slopes of the Bells.
Attending an outdoor concert on the Snowmass slopes with Dr. John as the opener, Taj Majal next, and after fireworks, Ray Charles with his full big band playing swing tunes for FOUR hours.
It took me months to come down from that high!
"I don't think Deet or I understand those plans there, DD."
What's not to understand, Shira? DD is planning to go backpacking in the North Cascades to Glacier Peak sometime this summer. Very clear to me. Next time, speak for yourself.
And as for your Lord & Taylor request: no.
(And what makes you think I'd be planning on going there again today after going last ni... ok, you got me there. )

Every once in a while I see him post on other threads. I think the last time was on a Glee thread. Sadly, he doesn't play here anymore.

Well, that's too bad. I hope he and the family are well.
Speaking of playing ...

Shelby, who just graduated high school, left Monday for a trip to Europe. I got a text from her from the airport, and her trip started with a Randy Jackson sighting...then talking to him and pictures. I believe her trip includes Germany, Swiss Alps, Mt. Pilatus, Dachau Concentration Camp, Vienna, Budapest, and I don't know what else.
I'm friends with her dad on FB and he just posted a trip update from her which I can't access from my phone , so I'm anxious to get home and check it out.

All these trips (even the outdoors ones!) sound fantastic. I must get some travel in one of these days.
Outdoor trips? You can do that?!
I love nature. I think it's beautiful. I just don't like the sweaty/grimy/touchy-feely part of it.
Well, speaking of things out of my normal element, I just completed building my bookshelf! Grey bricks and black pressed wood. Cheap, symmetrical, done.

My mother's only brother and his son, who I haven't seen in almost 25 years, found me on Facebook tonight. Kind of surreal. Blood connections and ties that I thought were irrevocably broken - and seemingly from about 4 lifetimes ago.
