Glebby - I went to try and find some pics of Misha from THE TURNING POINT to put in your movie stills thread, and was disappointed not to find much. And now I can't stop thinking about that movie! I think I have to find it and see it immediately
I always wanted to do a stage adaptation of it. I loved the book when I was young - and was always devastated that they took the part out where the MacLaine character's husband had an affair with a man (which, of course, I would put back into the live version!)
Good morning to the adults, by the way
Gelsey Kirkland is the actress first hired to play Emilia.
In the end the real life daughter of the couple upon which DeeDee and Wayne was based played Emilia.

Thanks for the background, Glebby! Why didn't Kirkland keep the role? And had the other girl acted before? I actually thought she was great!
RobbO I've changed now. Better?

OMG, North - I can't breathe now!
THANK YOU!!!
I'm not sure why Kirkland didn't stay.
She did say on a talk show that "Emilia was fluff."
Leslie Browne had not acted previously but did do some acting afterwards. She was on HAPPY DAYS and she played Romala in the NIJINSKY movie (gorgeous Janet Suzman played her mom).
Leslie did become a fine dramatic dancer and performed many of Nora Kaye's roles at ABT.

Hehe, North - that makes me think of when I was a teenager growing up at the beach, and I'd fake having trouble to get the lifeguard's attention.
I know, things haven't changed much . . .
Morning kids!! Watching Regis & kelly (yes i woke up early for this), and how could it get better? NPH, Nascar, and Grey Gardens! Someone up there in the skies likes me!
DG - well I never, really never what a sheltered life I've lead.
Morning Tink, Shamey, Kansas, DG and Glebb! Such pretty flowers!
So, Tink? Is your assignment completed?
ETA: Shoot, I'm sorry Mamie! Extra hellos and hugs to you!

North - come sit by me, and I'll catch you up
Tink - only you, honey, only you! NASCAR and Broadway - I love it.
For Boobs and the Guys -
Those pics bring back fond memories, Glebby. I had the great good fortune of seeing Gelsey and Misha in Nutcracker, at least half a life ago. (Of course I had to buy the DVD when it came out!) Beautiful pictures all.
hehe, no girly, I fell asleep, but I promise it is on my list for this morning!
DG - I have to make myself unique somehow, lol!
Morning hugs to everyone...an extra long one with a squeeze for Glebby..how did he know I LOVE roses? *mwah*
Boobs - :)
Mamie -
that'll do, kansas, that'll do.
The TV presentation wasn't exactly classic Nutcracker. All the parts had been redone so Misha and Gelsey were on stage the maximum amount of time. This Nutcracker (if I remember it correctly) had Gelsey's Clara dancing the Sugarplum Fairy's parts as well. I'm going to have to get it out and watch it again. The image of her gazing off through the window in her house is my clearest memory right now!
