Tink! Returning your hugs from the weekend: *hug*.
Moony! Shamey! Tink!
Moony, how was the Homecoming? Anything scandalous happen?

In my 30 (!)years of chaperoning dances, this was the most fun (yes, I said fun) I've ever had at a dance. The event was blessedly incident free, the kids were in great spirit and very happy and the decorations were phenomenal. The theme was "Under the Sea". They built Triton's castle in the corner of the auditorium and had aqua, lavender, green and white balloons rigged on wires that floated up and down, like bubbles, throughout the night. Balloon fish also floated around the room and bubble machines were operating on the stage. The hallways were covered with yards and yards of tulle, encasing more helium-filled balloons (they blew up 250 balloons) which bounced up and down, creating "waves" overhead.
Best of all was a special "senior dance". The seniors found a dance mix version of LM's "Under the Sea" and choreographed a wonderful group dance number. They had been practing in the parking lot after school for weeks. Over 100 girls in an intricate line dance, weaving in and out, then forming a circle with various girls and/or grioups of girls doing dance solos in the middle. It was fabulous and everyone was amazed that they pulled it off so well. I think that's what happens when you have a strong dance program at a school - by senior year everyone has had at least 1 dance class and they LOVE to perform. It was a great night and people are still talking about it this morning.

Moony, don't take this the wrong way, but your post made me smile and gives me hope.
For all the crap out there, sometimes kids are just kids, and good kids at that.
I have a silly smile on my face now.
Mornin' YWIW!
I'm telling you, that school needs it's own TV show.

YWIW, I had the same smile on my face as I drove home Saturday night. And I thought, "I love my job". That's a nice thought.
You are lucky to have found such a wonderful place to work!
And Morning shameless. I hear your mom was quite the hit of the weekend!

Yes, Momma Shamey must be pretty cool to meet this group. There's no way in hell I'd ever introduce MY mother to anyone here. She's ruin my reputation.

And regarding the school: there have times at lunch that a good dance song will come on in the sneoir lounge and the entire cafeteria will spontaneously break out in a dance frenzy. It's like the "Hot Lunch" scene from Fame. They're an amazing bunch of girls.
If any of you ever repeat this to her, I'll deny it, but the truth is that I won the mother lottery. She is pretty great. But she can also embarrass the hell out of me without even trying.
Hiya, You!
Moony, sounds like a fun night! I wish we could see pics.
Aw, Shamey. How cute!

If my emoticons were working, I would smile.
Do you teach at a performing arts school? I know you teach, but I honestly am a bit ignorant of the specifics.
And, Shira has met my mom - she is a force of nature onto herself! (My mom, though Shira could fit that description as well).
We did have a lovely time on Saturday at 9-5. It was pretty cool to go backstage and meet Stephanie and say hello to the other actors. But even more wonderful was a long, leisurely dinner with lots of chatting and laughter with all there. At some point, the west coast and east coast contingents will meet, and the world will never be the same.

Embarrassing your daughter is an important part of a mother's job. It's in the contract.
My parents definitely learned the "how to embarrass your child" lessons early on.
Moony - Your post is marvelous, thank you!
True story from YWIW's childhood.
I was a HS Senior, getting ready to go out with friends (and drink large amounts of alcohol) when my mother met my friends at the door, called me a "nerd" and told me to start being as clean as "apple pie."
My friends were busting up. I was mortified.
Very nice, YWIW. I like your Mom!
And, I bet you can almost see her standing at the front door saying that!
Sorry no Wii bowling this trip. Next time though!
embarrasing you, shameys? Whatever could you mean? You act like she and a friend of yours were dancing and singing to the piano at a cabaret club or something.
Greetings and hugs all around!
YWIW, we keep joking about having an "adult" summit, but it would take a lot of planning to get everyone to NYC, especially Hep and the other international peeps.
Oh yeah, Tinkerbell, I don't know what I was thinking. It's not like any friend of mine would EVER encourage my mother to do something like that.
Edit: YO Addy!
I want more advance notice next time, so I can book a room. Hate having work around public transportation timelines!

Well, I am one of the worst offenders - I end up traveling to just about everywhere but NY for work, and because I traveled for about 3 years straight for my job, I just hate doing it now.
I thought I was going to be in DC for a December conference, but I am reconsidering that one - I don't think I have the proper clothes for it!
And Hey Addy! Girly, Tink. Happy Monday.
And Tink, belatedly, the hair color is beautiful on you.
Good morning!
(Or, stay with a friend, Girly! *hint* )
And, that was seriously fun on Friday.
Great conversation, lots of laughter, happy drinks and a bunch of hugs. Doesn't get much better than that!
