In this economy, no one gets a break, sadly.
I had to fly across country for a funeral and they gave me a really incredible rate. There is a name for this special fare, but I can't remember what it is, but it's some sort of "emergency" rate. I had to fax them "proof," but they were really nice and very accommodating about the whole thing.

Yes, He SHOULD at least get a discount. The other thing about catching rides on hops is that you're somewhat restricted by their travel itinerary, and can end up having to go all the way around your ass to get to your elbow.
If he's in Singapore, he should look Boobs up - but we may never hear from him again.
^^true, dat^^
Apparently, the rate he has is cheaper than the bereavement fare.
I think that because he is effectively leaving immediately, it is going to be difficult to do anything.
Thanks for the suggestions.
With the airlines charging for everything these days, I hope they still have a kind heart towards this type of situation.
*agrees with DD*
In the meantime, though, how is your cousin, YWIW? I hope the surgery isn't too serious - I'll keep her in my prayers.
It gets even better. My cousin has adopted two meth babies, and has turned these two kids around since she has had them. Without her, they would have most likely been abused (the older one was apparently sexually abused), if not dead.
She is very sick right now, and he is in the military - he is volunteering to go to Afghanistan later this year for an increase in pay, because he makes more in that theater than in Japan (though I am not quite sure how someone in the Navy goes to Afghanistan).
This is a mess.
D2 - she apparently has to have her colon removed (and the gall bladder for good measure). If she has surgery soon, all should be OK. I am not sure when surgery is scheduled.

I'm speechless. I'll be thinking of them.
DG - I realize that there's absolutely no reason that I should be bored, being in the greatest city in the world. But things I currently want to do cost money. I know that even if I go out and wander the city, I'll find things to want and/or buy. And the things I like are expensive. I mean, there's a reason Shira and I are friends!
But I'll probably do some city wandering tomorrow with my camera, if I can get the pep in my step!
Edit: DG not D2
YWIW - I will keep your friend and his family in my thoughts. That's excellent what they have done. If there's any way to help ...

Cheffy - you're not the first, and won't be the last - but I'm the boredom ranter, not D2
I give good lecture.
But don't relax, because I could be, Cheffy.
ETA: I just read back. YWIW - I will definitely be praying for her.
Oh please, D2. You're like me - we get bored because god forbid we be outside in nature. Or humidity.
Which is precisely why I love NY - there are so many fascinating INDOOR things to do and not all of them cost money. Sorry, Sweetie, I'm with DG on this, so be careful, you could be getting it from both coasts.
Heh, Shira relayed the rant to me, and I heard the D2 part & not DG. And she corrected me as soon as she saw the post. Such a good friend!
My edit was a bit slow. I'm browsing on my cell phone because my laptop refuses to recognize the internet! *pout*
Sorry for the first names, gentlemen.
Yes there are, Deet! And I plan on attending ALL broadway shows!
Goddammit! I know that everybody knows our names, but for Christ's sake don't go f*cking posting them without our permission.
JHC!!!!
Deet's FURIOUS RIGHT NOW. God. Damned. FURIOUS!
Lucky Shira.
I've relayed the info.
As from Shira, I should never use real names. I'm in trouble.
