I do actually hate COMPANY, have ever since we studied it in high school.

But I would never say that on this board.

That unwisely said, I have nothing personal against this production or this man whom I've never seen nor heard perform, live or otherwise. I just think he's...dare I say it?

The thing is that I love COMPANY. I just don't like THIS production. It's like that one review says...it has no heart and soul, which you can't say about New York City, unless, of course, that's how you really feel about it. So maybe Doyle perceives New York as a cold, alienating void with no redeeming qualities. He's entitled to his vision. But I want him to give his goddam Tony back then!!!

If my parents' out-of-town (adult) friends hadn't cancelled, I know they would never have let me see COMPANY in 1970. But I lucked out...and experienced theatre history.

I really, really wanted to like this new production. I'm disappointed.

Fortunately I got to see MY DEAH and GREY GARDENS the next day, so all was right with the world after that.

I saw GREY GARDENS last night! I'm currently not being allowed to post my opinions about Ebersole on the Best Actress 2007 thread though.

Silly me is trying to argue that we can't predict with certainty that she'll win, as we haven't seen the other performances. Apparently, that's BROADWAY BLASPHEMY!!!!!
