Addie, I loved that you spelled Fogarty with an "A". That is my last name (REVEAL!). I'm always asked if I am related to John Fogerty with an "E". The number of times that I am asked that question directly equates to a definite appreciation for all things Creedance Clearwater Revival.

SOMMS...I thought you meant there should be an "a" where the "o" is.

Welcome to my childhood nightmare, Boobs! You were that big kid who called me Fagerty and Fagfarty on the playground at Sts. Phillip and James, weren't you?

Good morning folks. How is everyone doing?
Sooms, you owned a B&B? That's something I would love to do if I ever have the money to do it. I know it's an enormous amount of work, but it also seems like fun. There's a place we stay in ME every summer where the owners just seem to LOVE what they are doing.

I loved it O, but I worked 80-100 hour weeks with very few breaks. I was only 28 at the time and it took it's toll on my psychie! I occassionally spot for a friend who owns a B&B in New Hope and really enjoy it, but it's only a day or two at a time.

SOMMS, it's a TON of work!
My sister and her husband owned a B&B in Lambertville...I had fun helping them decorate the rooms when they first bought it - but it took ALL of their time. They owned it before they had children. I can't imagine how they would juggle it all now.
They had fun - then sold it to somebody who, unfortunately, ran it into the ground. Sad to drive by it now. It used to be so perfect...

The couple that owns the place I stay at work constantly throughout the summer and early autumn. They make up for it in the winter when they relax at their home in Florida and take a months vacation in S. America or on some tropical island somewhere.
I would do it that way, only for the summer months. At elast then you know the tremendous amount of work is time limited before you get to relax.

Orion - that's what I would do. A seasonal B&B.

I think about it every summer when I go to ME. Unfortunately the million or dollars that it takes to start up is well beyond my reach. Those lottery tix just aren't working out.

A bed and breakfast sounds romantic...but is it "private" enough?
Just wondering...a couple I knew did the b&b thing up the California coast for their honeymoon. They were quite "enthusiastic" newlyweds and discovered that the walls between the rooms were quite thin... :o)

Addie, your sister probably knows my sister. My sis ran the Inn at Fordhook Farm (the Burpee Seed estate) from 1985 to 1995 or so. She was very active in the local B&B owners association and was in tons of magazines and travel books, guides, cookbooks, etc.

Beacon, I guess it depends on how loud you get. Where I stay, the walls are thin but you can hear through the doors when you outside the bedrooms in the hallway. It's ok though because this place has mainly a gay male clientele and we tend to be a little less concrened with who hears us....unless you're talking about arguing.

If one is looking for a great B & B/Inn in Vermont -- I strongly recommend teh Blueberry Hill Inn, in Goshen Vermont --- nice old farmhouse and amazing food -- full dinner is included as well as breakfast!

I know someone who stayed there...I think thatw as the place...and loved it.
We go to the Ogunquit Beach Inn in Ogunquit, ME. It's a great little place filled with comfortable, homey furniture and decor with old family photos all over and each bedroom has it's own little theme.

Ok, subway leg spreaders were brought up this morning...now, can I take a moment to bitch about a couple of other types that make me nuts? I just ran out to Dunkin Donuts for more coffee.
First I encounter the woman driving the Lexus SUV that is a s big as a semi and she cannot figure out how to maneuver into the space. It took her 10 minutes and the space was plenty wide enough. My feeling is is, if it's too big for you to handle, don't waste your time trying (that applies not only to vehicles).
Once I got inside I had the pleasure of being behind the person who talks on her cell phone while placing her very specific order.
"yeah, so i says to her I says...wait a minute Mahcy....yeah, I want it toastid medium with cream cheese...wait a minute Mahcy, I'm ahderin my bagel....what? I dunno, what kind of cream cheeses ya gut?....no Mahcy, I told her I would call her tonight and lett'er know...what? I didn' hear ya, what kind of cream chesses? Ya got low fat?"
