Back from Props meeting/play rehearsal...
This thing goes on it two weeks and it will be a miracle if it comes together. Props are 75% handled. Unfortunately the other 25% are really tricky stuff...like the smudgepot fire.
Did I mention that have $0 budget for this?
And, today watching the scene at the Ascot, I noticed how the players are standing. Six girls seemed to be posed as if they are leaning on a parasol. There were no parasols listed for props... I asked the director "what are they supposed to be leaning on?" She looked blank. I pointed out the poses. She looked again. I said. were you planning on reusing the large umbrellas from the first scene. She said no...
She looked again. I said "The Ladies probably expect to be leaning on parasols." She said "oh, no. I don't think so."
When the scene ended I asked several of the cast members why they had posed that way. They all answered. "I'll be leaning on a parasol."
I asked the assistant director about it. She whipped out the wardrobe sheets with sketches provided with the script package.
"I don't think we're supposed to have parasols," she said.
In just about every dang sketch of the women's costume there is
a parasol/ladies' umbrellas. The AD goes "oh...I didn't notice that...I wonder if Wardrobe knows..."
I asked the wardrobe mistress whose eyes glazed over. She said,
"No....no one said a word to me. Can YOU find 6 parasols that will be black and white befitting the ascot."
Yea...6 black and white parasols in November in Buffalo...they're probably in every WalMart...
The director then informs us that the Props team has to be in the wings because the high schoolers on the stage crew will need to be supervised...The guy over scenery said he was in charge of the crew, but...well, hadn't reallyu worked things out.
Then the Director informs pulls me aside a bit later and says that the props team (me and my friend) to dress in black and both be at all performances to function as stage crew/movers...
PLUS...this is being performed in a high school auditorium to which we will not have access until dress rehearsal.
Some one rescue me NOW! Forget Calgon. Patrick Wilson take me away!!!!!!!!!
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?
