Can you interpret this quote?
#0Can you interpret this quote?
Posted: 12/8/05 at 4:55pmI am doing a project for English (for THE CATCHER IN THE RYE) in which I have to compile three songs one for each main segment of the book (Pencey Prep, NYC, and home) and relate quotes from them to parts of the book. One quote is "I'll lend you my tears if I can borrow a smile". Can you help me interpret what the artist is trying to say? I think Im good from there on out but I cant figure out what the artist is saying. Thanks

Posted: 12/8/05 at 5:16pmIt has been a long time since I read CATCHER. Without the context, I am afraid interpretation would be impossible.

Posted: 12/8/05 at 5:26pmNo, sorry, maybe I should have been more clear. The quote is from a song. I just can't understand what the artist is trying to say. I have to explain what the artist is saying, relate it to the book, and give a specific instance.

Well, the song is These Days by Chantal Kreviazuk so if you want to google it and help me...
Hope that's allowed, Craig.

Posted: 12/8/05 at 6:04pmAfter reading the lyrics to the entire song, it seems like that quotation is about wanting to experience a life different from one's own - the author seems unhappy and wants to trade her sadness for the happiness someone else is experiencing.
