Can you pay for someone else's hotel stay

It's my mother's birthday soon and I was thinking of paying for a trip to New York for her. However, usually when I go into hotels they ask for my credit card. Is there any way that I could pay them when I book so that she won't have to give her credit card(she doesn't even have one!) Thanks

I deal with this as part of my job. Just be clear with the hotel reservations clerk that you are paying with your card, not just reserving, and that she will not have a card to show at arrival. Most hotels will allow it.

My parents did that as a wedding present. They paid for my honeymoon. Everything was prepaid and we didn't have to do a thing. Hotels are normally fine with it. It is very sweet of you to do that for you mom.

It would be best to contact the hotel directly as different hotel chains have different policies.

My experience is that the Hotel requires a signed authorization by the payor.

You can pre-pay the room with your card, but usually they demand a card imprint by the person occupying the room to cover phone, room service or other incidentals.

You might try one of the smaller hotels in New York. The big chains have certain policies that they must follow. That Bed and Breakfast on 45th Street looks really nice.

What about going through websites like hotels.com or expedia? I can't remember if you need a card present or not.

It's very common to pre-pay on the dicount websites-- in fact, most require it. You book & pay immediately and when you check in the stay has already been paid for. Almost all hotels require a deposit for "Incidentals": Phone calls, room service, the mini bar, etc. It can be cash, check or creidt card and if you don't incur any expenses the deposit is never used. You might consider sending your mom off with a pre-paid Visa or MC, You can get them at most banks now and its handy for her to have for those places that require a credit card-- in fact, you could pay for her whole trip that way.

not a problem, they will take your card and they will also use it for incidentals......just go in person so they know you are the person whose name is on the card.........
