It turns out that Cardinal Dolan authorized payments of up to $20,000.00 to priests accused of child rape in order to get them to leave the priesthood. Meanwhile gay teachers at Catholic schools are being unceremoniously fired for NOT RAPING ANYBODY.
Way to go Catholic Church!!

How about calling the cops and reporting them for child molestation, as any right-thinking citizen should have done? I imagine that would have been pretty quick.
While I appreciate that they were at least removing these men from their positions, once again the priority was to avoid a scandal that might harm the reputation of the church.
Sickening.

Child molesters need parachutes, too. Were they so considerate as to the health care needs of the victims?

How saintly is a man who decided the best way to deal with the Church's pedophile problem is to keep gay men out of the priesthood!

$20,000 really doesn't go very far, even in Milwaukee. I would think the dollar amounts that are being reported are much lower than what's actually been shelled out, not to mention the $1,250 monthly "pension benefit" and continued health insurance. It really gives a whole new meaning to the term Peter's Pence. Time to hang a little moolah on the washline- cough up, Catholics.
