Carter Hotel in Times Square is the dirtiest hotel in the nation.
A steady stream of water poured from the mirrored ceiling into an array of garbage cans arranged below. “It’s a minor problem —that’s all,” a security guard said.

Posted: 1/28/09 at 8:09pm$130 a night???? The economy HAS come to Broadway. I remember staying there 3 years ago for $100. I've had good memories there! It was very "Thoroughly Modern Millie"

It used to be called the Hotel Dixie
After carter became president, the name changed. They kept the name & did not change it again.

Posted: 1/29/09 at 12:55amThat's where I stayed in 2005 and it was only $100 a night. It is pretty dirty, but all the room really needed was a good vacuum. All I really needed was a place to sleep and it was good for that. Most of my days were spent in the city, not in my hotel room, so it didn't bother me much.

Posted: 1/29/09 at 4:18amI stayed here and like the poster above it was so central and so cheap i didn't care. It was safe, the room was clean when we went into it (didn't get cleaned again over the next 6 days though)and had a huge closet that i could put all my bargains that I had brought with the money I saved on hotels.

It was $100 a night the one time I stayed there in 2006.
Lord, what an awful place it was. I'd heard it wasn't too pleasant, but I needed something cheap on short notice and my usual hotel was booked.
Well, let's see...the elevators had a very ominous groan. I was so afraid they would fail. Right after checking in, I was on the elevator on the way up to my room. There was a man in the elevator, clutching a bundle of sheets and looking miserable. He said that he'd just checked in and found the sheets in his room were stained and disgusting. He was on his way down to the front desk to complain.
The first thing I noticed when I walked into my room was the smell. It was the sort of smell that HIT you. I can't even describe it. Even years later, I still cringe at the memory of that awful smell.
When I went to plug in my cell phone charger, my hand stuck to a glue trap for rodents.
In the bathroom, the shower had three knobs for the hot water, three more for cold, plus about four for the tub tap. Well, between me and my roommate, we never did figure out which ones worked for what. We managed to eventually get the tub tap to work and it wasn't easy shampooing my long hair that way.
The bed...well, I count my blessings that I didn't get bedbugs from it, but it was like sleeping on a large cardboard box.
On top of all that, there was just a grim, depressing air to the place. I was so happy to finally check out.

Doesn't it look NICE??
That picture is EASY 20 years old.
It is a GIANT LIE!!! It is nasty dirty. Paint was falling off the walls with rust everywhere. Walking across the carpet in socks caused them to turn BLACK! The staff is a bunch of drunks who live in a room there. We went out for a walk, we came back to find that our key DIDN'T WORK in the door. Big shock, the staff DIDN'T have a master key. The toiletries was stolen AXE from the Family Dollar across the street.
