Posted: 10/9/06 at 2:47pmI think Carville gave good advice-- as much as I'd prefer Kerry as president to Bush, I think he would have been completely ineffective as a Popular vote "loser" who had to go to the courts to get the Electoral votes needed...sort of like GW up to 9/10/2001.

Wait---did Carville know how to expose Diebold and didn't?
Cuz THAT'S why Kerry lost...

Sorry, I've been in Italy for a while but is this what Republicans talk about WHEN THEY DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE MORAL DEGENERACY OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY?
Buona sera, you poor sad disillusioned Republicans.
I'm SO sorry your party turned out to be so...icky.

Curious re all the ado over Foley
In 1983 Dem Rep Gerry Stubbs actually had sex with a 17 year old male page & nothing ever happened. His party remained silent & he was reelected 5 times
Sounds like a double standard but alas that is the way it is today & another reason I have had it up to here with politics & I say a pox on both parties

Posted: 10/9/06 at 6:57pmI'm with you. Both parties stink to high heaven! I would be utterly embarrassed to be aligned with either one of them.

I'm with you two too.
The only thing that I would point out is that as a nation we have never been as aware and hyper sensitive to the issue of child abuse as we are at present times. Yes, we had several high profile cases of child abuse in the 70's and 80's but the national awareness didn't come until later. Think about Megan's Law, amber alert, TV shows like NBC's Catch a Predator.

then the three of you should get behind Ind candidates. there are 85 million people who didn't vote in the last election. I imagine plenty of them felt as you do. if all of you skipped to it, you could change the game.
but instead these people whine and/or don't vote.

Big, big, BIG difference between Stubbs in the 80s and Foley right now.
If you don't know, or need it spelled out for you, try looking it up.

I miss the old days where politcal debate involved actual debate; Nowadays, you challenge a right-winger and all they can do is say "BUT CLINTON...." Or in this case, "BUT STUDDS...."
I'd like to see some of these Republicans who are blaming anyone but Foley have the balls to say "I think NAMBLA might be on to something! Let's get rid of all these ridiculous statutory rape laws and let the good times roll!" (Ann Coulter, Matt Drudge I'm looking at YOU.)

I think it's not completely unfair to make the comparison between Foley and Gerry Studds. If you actually sit down and read about the 1983 page scandal as it pertains to Studds, then you would see there are differences. (as bwaysinger pointed out)
It's a cop out to try and justify Foley's actions by bringing up Gerry Studds.

I haven't skipped an election, on any level, sicne the early 70s, when I was old enough to vote. So, I don't know what you're talking about?!

Oh, I think it's completely fair to challenge people trying to say this is just like Studds. There were KEY differences, not the least of which is that a Republican was incriminated at the same time and BOTH members were legally censured.
The difference is that one continued to backpedal and deny, the other one held a press conference (with the page) where both condemned the witch hunt and said, "let us live our life" and moved on.
Foley's quick resignation and the gradual pooping out of more and more information pointing to a coverup on the part of the Republican party makes this a completely different game. Completely.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 11:15amAnd Miss Studds didn't ride to victory by scapegoating his fellow gays and lesbians.

How dare you suggest that he didn't, lildogs! Why, that refutes the entire "this sort of thing happens all the time" argument! That means it's impossible!
