Cat Question

The vet said just to keep an eye on him, and that it could be the stairs, but that if he starts to look really thin, or anything else changes to bring him in.
Hmmm - I may just have to start giving him more treats to make sure he stays nice and healthy.
Thanks again for the advice and suggestions (and stories)!
And Joe - Stoli did that with a piece of shrimp in my Pad Thai - then growled at anyone who got close to him!

Awww -- look at all the beautiful babies! I also have a Russian Blue (they are awesome) and she would be happy to live on a steady diet of table scraps and cookies. She will even go to the cabinet in the kitchen where we keep the cookies and "ask" for treats. We also have a brown/black tabby who is a bit on the rotund side. And its funny, she eats less "junk" than the blue (the blue is thin/normal weight).
YWIW - I noticed that the tabby lost a little weight when we first moved into a house with stairs too. She needed it though! The blue (who was never overweight to begine with) showed no change. So I bet your Stoli is fine, just more in shape now!

Posted: 5/21/08 at 2:21pm^^ Yes, just like that! The thing I love about Russian Blues is that they are so smart and funny. When they want their snacks, they will let you know!

Since our cats are on seperate special diets, he's on strictly portioned diet food, she is on Science Diet X/D for bladder stones, and neither are allowed to eat each other's food...I have to move the food hiding place every once in awhile, not to mention stand with a watchful eye while they are eating.
Mealtime is loads of fun!

Doodle, our cats are the exact opposites. My boy Murphy is a gray tabby and also weighs 23 lbs. Ruby, my orange tabby, is a tiny girl...about 9 lbs. She is younger and more active and eats a lot less than Murphy. Murphy doesn't eat a LOT (I portion the food out during the day) but he does find her leftover food and gobbles it.
The funny part is that Murphy is a big puker..at 23 lbs! I tell him he's the world's least successful bulimic.

HA! Well, I'm glad neither is a puker...I had one of them and it's rough on the carpets!
Maybe it's just orange boys...orange neutered boys?
(I love him no matter what, but am glad he isnt the fattest cat on bww! Thanks, newgirl!)

Posted: 5/21/08 at 4:19pmMy cats are getting lots of extra cookies and hugs and pets lately because Baby Peach is coming, literally, ANY DAY now. I want to make sure the cats don't get jealous and to make sure they know they are still the boss-ettes! I think they know something is up though. The Blue lays across my big belly and purrs (makes the baby kick). The tabby has been at my heels for a week -- following me everywhere, even into the bathroom!

"I wish the stairs had the same effect on me!"
well, if you'd run up and down them all day, they would.
(sounds normal to me considering he has more room)

Posted: 5/21/08 at 5:27pmI'm one of "those" people that doesn't know how to post pics, so I changed my avatar to my favorite picture of them. Granted, it hides Murphy's full-figuredness. He looks sort of like the pic doodle posted of big kitty/little bed, just gray fur instead.

E - I was up and down my stairs a good 40 times for the housewarming - all it did for me was leave me sore the next day!
Oy.
And newgirl - very cute. To post pics, you can upload them to a photobucket account, and then cut and paste the url from photobucket into the message.

Thanks guys. Once I figure it out/have time, I'll post more. Little Ruby, btw, recently had dental surgery and they removed TWELVE of her teeth. All she has left are the two bottom incisors and those little bitty teeth right in front.
Her top lip keeps getting caught behind those bottom teeth and she is always sneering at me. :)

Stoli has big long fangs that hang over his bottom lip - he looks like a Vampire cat sometimes.
He did bit his lip though once - a perfect hole the size of his fang!
