Charles in Charge

so i'm checking out my college alumni website and see a section titled: "Rutgers in the Movies." i went to rutgers university - cook college and lived in central new jersey most of my life. lo and behold, i come across this gem:

"Charles in Charge, Universal TV, 1984-1990. Starring Scott Baio & Willie Aames. This television series was set in New Brunswick, where Rutgers undergraduate Charles earns his tuition by working as a nanny."

i watched CIC for years (ashamed to say) and never, ever knew he was supposedly in new brunswick, rutgers, or even new jersey for that matter!

did anyone know this?

re: Charles in Charge

I didn't know it, either. And to think he was "in charge of my days and my nights!"

re: Charles in Charge

I LOVED the first season of Charles in Charge. The family was great, Jennifer Runyon was a dream and Willie Ames hadn't gone all retarded as Buddy Lembeck just yet!

re: Charles in Charge

I watched it as well and had no idea. I assumed it was set California.

I guess that was because of all the blondes running around and they never seemed to wear winter coats.

My, the things I missed by turning the sound off everytime I watched this show! It's OK, I still loved it.

I want Charles in Charge of ME.

re: Charles in Charge

Scott Baio was gorgeous, but couldn't act. I always thought Charles in Charge was as bad as they come.

re: Charles in Charge

No, the show about the girl robot was as bad as they come. And She's the Sheriff. Those were far worse than Charles in Charge.

Willie Aames was HOT HOT HOT!

re: Charles in Charge

i never even found scott baio that attractive. i just couldn't look away from the t.v. i guess it was like a train wreck. you don't want to look but you have to. finally, after the first season, they brought in different cast members who could act. *

*it was after the first season that the family changed, kept the same house (which came with charles whether you liked it or not - because face it, he was in charge), but they added a dog, right? man, that dog could act!

re: Charles in Charge

speaking of bad shows....what was the name of the show with the blonde girl who was part alien? her mother was the actress from "angie" and "saturday night fever" i cannot remember her name right now. and her father was an alien - he communicated to her thru a chessy knick knack on their dining room table...

later, i think she dated the guy who went on to become a quartermaine son on general hospital.

anyone know what show i'm talking about?

re: Charles in Charge

I worked with the dad from SMALL WONDER like 30 years ago at a dinner theatre in Omaha. His real name was Dick Johnson, but there was already an Equity actor with that name, so he took the name Dick Christie, after the character he had played in PLAY IT AGAIN SAM.

I think Small Wonder and the like are the reasons the WB was created.

RobbO, I don't know how you can look at the photo of Scott and at least not think yummy.

Scott Baio still has the same hair.

Willie Aames is now an evangelist and host of a show on the Trinity Broadcast Network.

scott baio will always be 'chachi' to me. wa, wa, wa. cute, yes, i will give you that but never in a lustful, sexual way.

i swear to cher this is true. i just went to check out the listing for "out of this world" on imdb.com and the first person listed as director of this infamous show is none other than scott baio. six degrees of scott baio, anyone?

and, no, i have no clue why they they "barbie" as the sitcom's image.

re: Charles in Charge

Didn't 'Joanie' claim that 'Chachi' raped her and that's why she went insane?

I'm sorry...but Erin Moran is NO Connie Francis.

re: Charles in Charge

i did notice that joanie was VERY far away from chachi during the happy days reunion footage...

also, looks like jennifer runyon was the farrah fawcett-majors of the charles in charge set - she was only on the first year when it was on cbs, but she left such a "stamp" on the show...

Now that you mention it they did look every uncomfortable on the recent reunion show.

re: Charles in Charge

On one of those Horrible VH-1 Shows, Erin Moran had said that she and Scott had been "a couple" during Happy Days & the early part of "Joanie Loves Chachi" but that it ended 'badly' and the strain of still working together after that was VERY stressful.

As long as we're on the subject, anyone remember Scott & Wille's dreadful teen sex comedy movie "Zapped"?
