Cheap Hotels in NYC
re: cheap hotels in nyc#25
Posted: 5/13/04 at 1:36amThe Radio City Apts is one of the best values I have found. The studios include a kitchen w pots pans microwave fridge coffe maker & include daily maid service. This allows u to save $ on meals out. Rates vary according to season so check. I think their summer rate is 112 & tax for a studio but check their website.

But where does one buy groceries in NYC? The closest thing I've seen to a grocery store are those little over priced convenience stores taht have a very limited selection. Where do New Yorkers get their food?
re: cheap hotels in nyc#28
Posted: 5/13/04 at 3:37pmThere are plenty of grocery stores in Manhattan -mostly Gristedes, D'agostinos, Food Emporium(s) and Key Food, in the neighborhoods I've lived in. It's easy to get groceries in Manhattan (albeit overpriced!)
re: cheap hotels in nyc#29
Posted: 5/13/04 at 3:39pmI've never seen them. I'm used to those big super stores where you can get groceries, do your banking, fill your prescriptions, buy books, houshold necessities and find a date for the evening

Re Radio City Apts
Non fancy but v cheap. Food Emporium is about 3 blocks away @ 8th ave. Not cheap but cheaper than paying for 3 meals a day in restaurants. Elevators a bit slo.

Posted: 5/13/04 at 9:29pmHoney, my boyfriend and I were in New York last month and we found lots of fabulous resturants to eat at....Very cheap and the best food I have ever eaten.....We always ate a late lunch at lunch prices and ate snacks for dinner....We had a fabulous Hotel.....BUT we were never in it to enjoy it.....We were in the streets from 10 in the morning til midnight for five nights...I am returning in October and I will rent a room at the YMCA by the Lincoln center for 60 dollars a night...We checked it out and it looks fine..If even has a pool....I am there to see the city and watch Broadway shows....Just give me a bed with a good lock on the door and I will be fine...

Posted: 5/13/04 at 9:34pmTo pay megabucks for a place you will basically sleep in is absolute insanity. You come to the city to see it & not to stay in a room all day. Even if you did stay in the room all day, most room rates in NYC & major cities are obscene

I stayed at travel in during Thanksgiving last year. It was pretty and nice and only cost about $100.

Posted: 3/6/05 at 9:03amHotel 31. It's on 31st between Park and Lexington. I just stayed there. It's 75 dollars a night. The rooms are small, but not horrible. There are shared bathrooms, but there are 2 per floor, with only 10 rooms per floor. It's also a great location. My room had a view of the Empire state building. It's within walking distance of Times Square as well.

The Habitat on 57th(?) and Lexington had decent prices. There were commmunal baths, but it never seemed that busy, even over New Years. The room was somewhat tight, but overall it was a good place to stay.

Posted: 3/6/05 at 12:03pm$ 50 a night ? Maybe 50 years ago. Now you cannot get a broom closet for $ 50

Wow, this is an old thread.
The place I ended up finding (the name escapes me now) cost me $65 a night which wasn't bad at all. There are rooms for around $50 but I think they were all booked at that time.

Yes, this is an old thread.
The Skyline, which used to be a great deal, is now up to about $165/night.

DO NOT stay in the Milford! Ugh- what a dump. Loud, tiny rooms with a bathroom that made me claustrophobic!
You can get a deal at the Quality on 48th (47th?)-- it's right next to the Palace (in fact, our room had a view of the stage door and we saw Mickey Dolenz come out-- what a treat!) You can get a suite (yes, a suite--with 2 big rooms and a great bath) for about $120-170 when you book early. Last trip our hotel "LOST" our reservation so we walked in on Friday afternoon, paid rack rate and still it was less that $200 a night for a the biggest Hotel room I've had in NYC. And the staff was NICE too!

Posted: 3/5/08 at 2:50amSorry to bump this up, but the Hotel 31 DOES have private bathrooms too in some rooms, right? I did book one with a private bathroom, but just making sure...

Posted: 3/5/08 at 10:42amAbout 5 years ago or so I was able to get into the Edison, and a few other places, for around $99 to $119 (plus taxes). Seems like ancient history now. Then again, expect to pay more for just about anything in mid-town, for instance a 22 oz Bud costs $2.75 there and $1.25 here in Jersey. $2.00 for a pretzel from a street cart!

There's a hotel on 47th between 6th and 7th right near the Palace theater. THey used to advertise 80 or 90/night for two nights maybe.
Maybe im wrong.
