Cherry Jones is the President of the United States

Anyone 24 fans here? Well Cherry Jones plays the tv shows first female president "Allison Taylor."
Is anyone else pumped for this?

I am a HUGE fan of the show. Season 6 was a letdown, but season 5 was amazing. I believe they're showing a special 2-hour movie in a couple of weeks, then the next season will begin in January.

LOVE this show, and agree with madbrian...season 6 was disappointing, because of how bizarre it suddenly got, and how many blatant liberties they took with the real-time format.

I liked season 5 a lot, and also liked the season with the virus (season 3) a great deal.

Can't wait for the November movie, and for the show to return. I've really been missing Chloe's (my favorite character) wisecracks this past year.

re: Cherry Jones is the President of the United States

I love how after season six the writers wrote a letter to the fans saying that they were sorry for it sucking. They realized after the fact that they lost a lot of die hard 24 fans after that season and realized that they had to shape up for the next one. As much as I love the show I am very skeptic about watching it or not this year.

What do you mean by redic? 24 has always been cliched(sp?) but its the action, and plot twists that gets me everytime, not to mention Jean Smarts brilliant acting job in season 5.

SPOILERS!!!

They're bringing back a major character previously believed to be dead, and I think 24's plot twists are strong for the most part but sometimes they just get beyond the realm of credibility.

SPOILERS...

So, they're finally resurrecting Tony Almeda? They toyed with that in season 6, too. Their argument always was, "well, you never SAW him die." Well if he comes back, I assume Michelle Dessler will be similarly rising from the dead soon.

re: Cherry Jones is the President of the United States

Why can'rt the world be more like TV? On TV, we've already had a black president (Dennis Haysbert - 24), a woman (Geena Davis - Commander in Chief), and a Hispanic (Jimmy Smits - West Wing).

re: Cherry Jones is the President of the United States

24 has actually had two black Presidents- David Palmer and his younger brother, Wayne Palmer.

I hope at the beginning of this season they'll explain what happened to Wayne, since he's obviously no longer President. They've always been very tricky about how much time passes between each season.

I also hope we get a glimpse or two of my favorite assassin, Mandy, this season.

re: Cherry Jones is the President of the United States

Some new tidbits from an article at Eonline, about both the season and the movie, which airs on November 23:

1. In the movie, Jack uses the D-word. Yep, he mentions his...daughter! Elisha Cuthbert's Kim Bauer does not appear in the movie, but Jackie boy does talk about her wistfully to one of the kids at the school in Sangala. And although she won't appear onscreen in Redemption, network sources confirm that Kim will appear in season seven.

2. Carly Pope (of Dirt and Popular fame) and Eric Lively (brother of Blake Lively) are the hot new kids in town, and they play engaged couple Roger Taylor and Samantha Roth. Roger is the son of President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones), and by the end of the movie he's well and truly enmeshed in an international conspiracy. He has no idea how deep he's gotten in the quicksand, and any move he makes only sucks him in deeper. (BTW, Pope does an amazing job in the movie as Roger's tightly wound, hypercautious lady-friend, and I expect as the season progresses, she'll be the reason he escapes, if he makes it out at all.)

3. There are two casualties in Redemption that set the stage for season seven's big mysteries. The dead dudes (yes, dudes) are new characters, but that doesn't mean they aren't significant. Any guesses on who's a big deal but still oh-so-disposable?

They also have the trailer for the new season up, and Tony Almeda is in fact back, but...

SPOILER......
He's a bad guy now

The only familiar faces you see in the trailer besides Jack are Chloe and Buchanan (both of whom I am thrilled are back). The setup actually looks kind of hoaky.
