It's called Macy's Fields now, right? Just like how in Boston it's Filmacy's.
Corine, I can not stress highly enough the need to eat a Giordano's deep dish pizza with extra cheese. Let's really give that thyroid of yours something to deal with!
A trip and yummy dinner in Greek Town is a must, as well. Let me just say, the manly men there are quite fond of the pint-sized portly pepperpots. You should do very well there. I love visiting Greek Town but at the end of my visits I'm sad that I have to leave my Greek friends behind.

Posted: 7/14/06 at 11:33amI understand that the job market is very strong in Chicago and that many places are hiring right off the resume, without so much as a phone interview! It happened to a friend of mine and now he works the Bijou Theater.

It depends what you mean by the "heart of the city". There are many wonderful neighborhoods scattered all over the city. Actually, you can see my apartment building in that picture. If you want to live in the Loop, Gold Coast, lakeside Lincoln Park, or River North, plan on $1200-1700 for a decent one-bedroom. $900-1200 for a studio. The new luxury apartments popping up around downtown will run more. A studio in a building near me starts at $1500.
That reminds me, does anyone know about that freaky older guy with one eye who walks along the river and along the Michigan bridge in those crazy suits? I mean, he obviously isn't homeless (the suits are hideous, but I doubt they are cheap), he is really insane. He leers at women all along the sidewalk and once I had to block him from this young girl he kept stalking against her objections until he was ahead of her and turned around and started coming after her. Once I interrupted his plans, whatever they were, he became distracted and started off in another direction. The guy is creepy.

Corine, what's your budget for the move?
#40re: chicago
Posted: 7/14/06 at 1:00pmI am not moving. The costs are the same as NYC. So, there is no reason to move.

Corine. You would only move if a city was cheaper? Shouldn't it really depend on love of the city, a job, etc?
If you were to land a job of a lifetime, you wouldn't move becuase the costs are the same?

I have to say, this is why some people in some places view certain people from New York as, well, I don't want to say the word in polite company.
"EVERYTHING has to be cheaper in other cities because other cities aren't New York!"

Chicago is a most livable city- ABSOLUTELY cheaper than NYC. Check WWW.ChicagoReader.com for the best listing of apartments.
And it's cracking me up to hear how cold Chicago is when we are under a "Heat Alert:" A wacky warning they came up with after over 700 people died in the heat wave of '95. It will be over 100 with humidity in the 60-70% range this weekend. That feels exactly like a giant dog is breathing on you.

Posted: 7/14/06 at 10:52pmThe video distribution arm of Bijou was consumed in a fire a few years back, but last I knew the theater was still going strong. I used to love to call the recording and hear what films were playing that week: "Starting Friday, 'The Sperminator 4' and 'Butt-Pirates of the Carribean!'"
