Curious, you can't tell a candy bar by its wrapper!!!
The NewTree Sexy Bar tastes like those mints they put on your pillow in hotels. The ginger isn't crystallized. The chocolate bar is "infused" with the ginger, which you can't even tell is ginger.
It's all about the Chocolove, baby!

TG, it's 65% cocoa content. Nowhere near as sweet as milk chocolate.
They have it at Whole Foods.
Very yummy!

I love dark chocolate but I'm not so sure about the ginger...I had crystallized ginger once and I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. The combination sounds interesting, though.
The packaging reminds me a bit of Bloomsberry & Co chocolates - http://www.bloomsberry.com/zen-cart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=11 I was going to ask if anyone here had heard of them - they make "Emergency Chocolate" bars, which you can see on the page. Their chocolate is soooo delicious. But I did a bit of research and found out that they're so plentiful around here because the company is based out of the city where I attend college. Go figure. No wonder that's why I see it everywhere.

Mythus: we can buy those Bloomsbury "Emergency Chocolate" bars (and others in the range) here in the UK at Sainsburies, which is a major supermarket chain and they are really good.
I'm afraid I don't understand the giddiness about the crystallised ginger in plain chocolate on this thread: is it the particular brand you're all excited about or the idea in general? There are umpteen brands of crystallised ginger in plain chocolate over here and have been for donkey's years - it's nice but it's nothing new.

Scripps, I know that crystallized ginger and chocolate combination is common in the UK, but it is rare in the US.
The last time I was in England I bought so many different varieties of choclate cookies with crstallized ginger I thought, "I guess I just haven't been looking hrad enough for this sort of thing in the States." I also naively thought I would be able to find anything I'd developed a deep fondness for online. I was wrong on both counts.
NOT common in the States, so that's why we're making a "fuss."
There was one ginger-chocolate cookie I had in London last summer that I was willing to pay anything to have shipped to me at home, but, alas, the only company I found that distributes it ships solely within the UK.
Mythus, my husband eats crystallized ginger as is...yuk! Give this a try. It's amazingly good. Coincidentally, we're sharing a ginger Chocolove bar on the train right now!

That genuinely surprises me. It wasn't my intention to sound as though I was gloating.
I'd agree that crystallised ginger is nothing without the plain chocolate.

I actually saved the wrapper from the chocolate-ginger cookie I had in London that I loved so much. I went to their website, blah, blah, blah. Was SO disappointed that I couldn't get them. WHo knows? Maybe in the past year they've started shipping globally. I think it's time to "revisit" that obsession!
Oh, and I do want to add that it's not just the "concept" of chocolate and ginger. As I pointed out in one post, I tried that "Sexy" chocolate bar (the only other choco-ginger candy I've seen in the States) and it doesn't compare to Chocolove! So the brand definitely matters.

Call me Augustus Gloop because I just gobbled down my first bar without stopping to inhale.
Yummy: It was sweet, sharp, warm and spicy with that distinct ginger "burn."
Very satisfying.
I also tried a ...hold on.. a chocolate bar made with bits of bacon. Not my cup of tea.

BFB, it is sweet, but perhaps in chocolate parlance "rich" would have been a better term for me to use. I'm like you. When I eat a chocolate bar, I eat the whole thing. Never save for the future what you can have today. lIke the eastern European tradition of "once the cork is off the bottle, you drink it down".
Chocolove with Crystallized Ginger had me screaming "where's the nearest water reservoir!" (figure of speech)

I know a restaurant that does ice cream with bacon but I've never risked trying it.
I have tried chocolate with chilli (yuk) and chocolate with balsamic vinegar (not as bad as it sounds).

Lindt Excellence (can't live without at least two of their 70% dark chocolate bars every 28 days) makes a dark chocolate bar with chili powder in it. It takes some getting used to, but I like the subtle heat. I like most of the Excellence stuff that Lindt does.
I gave up on their 85%, though...bit too much for me. And apparently they have a new 99%...that one might send you to the emergency room.

Why did it take me so long to venture into this thread? I must try this! Fortunately, I pass by a Whole Foods on my way to work...
I know this can't compare, but there's a choclatier down the street form me who makes outrageously interesting chocolates. They change flavors seasonally. My sweetie gets me a box every Valentines Day. Aside from the chocolates, he also does these addictive homemade caramels topped with sea salt. Unbelievable!
He also sells a book (available on the website) that teaches you how to make your own.

Posted: 7/21/08 at 8:40amThe wrapper has a poem about love printed on the inside. I mean a REAL poem, by someone like Byron, Rossetti and Shakespeare. Not that you need further incentive to eat the whole bar quickly!
