Did anyone catch him on the view today? He was charming. He wants Julie Andrews to play Kurt's grandma
My favorite person on that show

he's great. lets make this interesting now
They never mention that Kurt is gay during the interview. And that bullying and homophobia are linked. That bugs me because its ignoring the message of that episode. Everyone says flamboyant or theatrical, but that is equated to being gay. It just irks me that they were beating around the bush of Kurt being gay bashed.
Yeah- I saw it and I thought he was charming. Loved the story of how they came up with the name Kurt for his character and I would so LOVE for Julie Andrews to be on the show. Also loved how Sarah Silverman asked the audience about what they thought about the DADT policy and of course, the entire military audience didn't say anything. Then she said something like you are all here to see The View and the guest is one of the stars of Glee- I know the answer!
Here.

They did skirt some issues. (as EH would anyway)...but they did bring it up about his personal background and being bullied and his conservative parents being cool. I think it was a given what they were talking about. as for the other part of the show...absolutlely.
I found Sherri's leggings and top ensemble distracting tbh.
also, i found it interesting he tried for another well known role before becoming Kurt.

Sherri herself is a distraction. I know the allude to the fact. And they really weren't going to spend the whole segment talking about the issue. It was really about getting to know Chris.
It's just I've been reading articles about him. In the beginning, articles were more clear about his orientation; though Chris, himself, has alluded to being gay but has made no declarative statement, "I'm gay" or what not. I remember Fox getting ruffled for articles mentioning Chris's orientation.

Yeah, I guess he's never explicitly said anything, but I thought all the talking about being picked on in school was strongly implying it to the point that it was simply understood.
So he's elected to go the route of a Sean Hayes (I swear, his comments sound exactly like Hayes used to say back in the day), which is fine and all, but I would imagine its disheartening to Glee's gay fans.
I guess it becomes a vicious cycle - Conventional wisdom says out gay actors are limited in what roles the public will accept them in, but we'll never really know because virtually no one comes out, leaving a very small sample of actual out actors to use as examples.
If it is because Fox is putting the squeeze on the kid, then shame on them, but if it's really because Colfer is worried about his long term career, then shame on him, especially since he had no compunction about drawing the comparisons between his life and his character's.
But if it IS Fox, are they not putting a similar squeeze on Jane Lynch? Or does she get a pass because she's a lady and premenopausal?

I like what you said and made the Sean Hayes reference. I think it would be great if he could be more declarative. But he is under a lot of pressure. I think he is handling himself very well. He is not denying or even avoiding. He makes statements that obviously connotate he is gay. I just hope he doesn't have to feel a backlash or frenzy like Sean Hayes experienced.

Yeah, I don't know. I totally get that he's adjusting to overnight success and all the stuff that comes with it. I'm just exhausted by hearing how they are just keeping their private lives private as though acknowledging the fact that you are gay is tantamount to talking about what positions you like and how often you're getting it.
I thought I read in an interview with him a few months ago where he said that he was actually gay.

Yeah. Coming out is a very revealing personal statement. Yes, straight people don't have to do that, but when gay person comes out it is a double edged sword. You are honest about who you are, but then some people feel like its allowance to ask about your sex life.
I like how he and even Johnny Weir have never said, "I'm gay" but just act as they are. Even though I brought this whole topic up. It's like we, the public, want them to make a statement to have something over them.
The only time it ever becomes an issue is when it is denied and then later come out.

He is most definitely not going the Sean Hayes route. He is totally and completely out. He has made several comments about being gay. He may be being pressured now to not talk about it, (or he may just be tired of talking about it), but in the past he has been very open with the Advocate, Chelsea Handler, Ellen, and several other media outlets.
I wish allegedly gay celebrities would stop using the "my private life" excuse. Thanks a lot Clay Aiken. Whether you are gay or not IS not your "private life"...but a part of your life. A facet of your personality/being/whatever the hell you are. That's a brainwashed response generated by Hollywood as an escape route to answering the question directly.
It's really annoying to me.
I do specifically remember the Chelsea Lately interview. She went "Okay, so you're gay, right? You're gay." And he went "Yeah." And then they went on to talk about how he was a good role model for young gay teens.
I was gonna mention the Chelsea Handler interview where he confirmed the fact he was gay, no hiding, no walking around the issue and it didn't seem to be a big deal to him as far as I remember. I imagined it was the decision of the people from THE VIEW to handle it that way, perhaps because of the audience, but he is most certainly not in the closet the way Sean Hayes was when promoting WILL & GRACE.

From USA Today: "Playing an openly gay kid means fielding questions about his own sexuality, which Colfer doesn't address. 'I try to keep up a mystery. As much as I give away of my personal life, the less people will believe me as other characters. I try to be private about it. It is what it is,' Colfer says with a shrug."
That's from the Advocate blurb I linked.

Yeah, he's definitely out- no denial about it at all :)
I think he just doesn't like to discuss it too much in interviews and stuff, which is completely understandable. I mean, he only JUST turned 20! He's still really young, and coming out publicly and having all the media harp on your sexuality can be pretty overwhelming for anyone I'd imagine, let alone for someone who's probably only been out in his personal life for a couple years or so. So he probably just asks interviewers to be respectful and not ask him about it too much- he'd probably rather talk about Kurt and the show instead
But yeah, on Chelsea Lately she addressed it point blank and Chris said yep. And I think he'd said it point blank before that too.. plus I remember an interview where the lady asked if his parents were as accepting as Burt is in the show, and he said "yes, very cool and accepting" so that's essentially saying it outright too
Aaanyway, he's so uber adorable, and his interviews make me really happy I love his witty, self deprecating sense of humor
Did anyone watching that interview think he was suggesting that he's a straight kid playing a gay one? I doubt it could have been any clearer, unless he arrived with GAY on a tee-shirt. Clay the next day, for being out, seemed even less comfortable with the topic, for what it's worth.
Who??
"but he is most certainly not in the closet the way Sean Hayes was when promoting WILL & GRACE."
what a switch now. i loved the way Sean discussed the issue on the view yesterday.
Unfortunately the video is no longer available on YouTube, but here's a link about Colfer's appearance on Chelsea Lately, during which he came out.

Is AfterElton freaking out because he's under 27 and asked about his sexuality?
Let me go check.
EL OH EL
At 20, many of the people on this board sent out even more messages.
I was at the Radio City concert and he was terrific in the group numbers and his solos.
And all the hysterical teenage girls screaming "I love you, Chris!" love him, knowing full well that he's gay. They don't parse every comment he makes to media. The KNOW. And they LOVE him. That's good, not bad.
If he's this good when he's only 20, imagine how terrific he'll be when he's Jane Lynch's age.

If they don't parse every comment, how can we be sure they know he's gay?
