Christmas Special on Christmas Specials

Did anyone happen to see this on cable last night. It was very well done. The clip of the King family brought back some vague memories for those of us from that time period (my parents still have their Christmas album). The funniest thing was bringing up the Kathy Lee Christmas specials and the thumbs down reviews from The Washington Post critic.

Anyone else see this?

Saw it, loved it - especially Judy Garland intentionally screwing up lyrics to get back at Mel Torme...

Hope it airs again soon...

Oh no, I missed it! What was this called? I want to see it. I remember the King Family Christmas specials. I wish they would put them out on DVD for nostalgia sake.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

When my sister and I were little we would get so excited when we would see "Katie" from MY THREE SONS in the King Family specials...

I adored them!

Gotham, it was actually called The Christmas Special on Christmas Specials. I don't remember what cable station it aired on, but a lot of people providing commentary were the usual suspects from the VH-1 channel.

While I loved this special I think Joel Stein needs to give up. He just isn't funny. He is trying to bite on Mo Rocca and Michael Ian Black's style and it doesn't work. He just comes off as stupid and uninformed.

re: Christmas Special on Christmas Specials

I saw this show last night and enjoyed it for the most part. Carson Cressley actually did a good job as the narrator/host. Some of the other commentators were a bit too sarcastic for my taste. I think certain commentators were well chosen - like Bing Crosby's daughter, Pat Boone, The King Family...because they were actually "there" for many of the old time specials. But, some of those other "C" list celebrities -pu-lease - who really cares about what Sophie B. Hawkins or Joel Stein thinks was cheesy. At times, the show reminded me of one of those VH1 specials about the 70s, 80s, or 90s with "C" list celebrities sarcastically commenting on eras past. The show should have been better, but Bravo was being Bravo and tried too hard to make the show campy with it's peanut gallery commentators.

Clay Akin singing with the "image" of Bing Crosby was pretty creepy.

I will not stand for the slamming of Joel Stein.

He's a terrific writer, a witty commentator (not shown to his best last night, I'll grant you that) and an incredibly nice and kind human being.

ALSO, he is the man who brought back BATTLE OF THE NETWORK STARS on TRIO.

He's a godsend!

I think it was the whole 'Am I only here to give the ironic Jew perspective?' thing going on.

Gah!!!! I thought the same exact thing! CREEEE-PY!!!

All in all I enjoyed the whole thing. I just really wish the trend of witty-comments-made-by-people-who-make-a-living-making-witty-comments-on-shows-like-this would just die already.

Whoever said the best/most appropriate parts were the comments by the people who were actually there, was correct. I would much rather hear more from Lorna Luft or Pat Boone then Sophie B. Hawkins. I really don't care what her childhood was like.....

It's worth watching if only for the Captain & Tenille "Jingle Bells meets Carmen Miranda" number.

The Captain and Tenille tv show is going to be released on DVD next year, I wonder if they'll include that Christmas episode?

re: Christmas Special on Christmas Specials

Lorna's comments about Kathy Lee and her Christmas specials just cracked me up. I'm going to have to watch this show again.
