simple question really...
this spring I'll have the opportunity to be in either Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, or CATS.
Which one should I choose??? Neither sound too appealing to me but I really want to be in a show this spring since my school musical ends in February.
I'm a baritone/low tenor, if that helps...
Oh, goodness, I've been in both. Good times!
Well...first of all, it really depends on your strong points. Are you more a dancer or singer? Try CATS. If you're a great actor and singer, but don't want to dance, then go for Cinderella.
Furthermore, if you're looking to be a lead, think about which show you'd have more of a chance of getting a great part with. What specific roles would you want in the shows, and do your voice and look fit with them? Do you know the people better in one group than the other?
Finally, what would you rather listen to on repeat? Can you handle "Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats" more than you can "Ten Minutes Ago"?
I like R&H Cinderella. i personally would go for that, but I think justagirl has better points. Go with what she said.
I worked on Cinderella for three weeks this past summer! It is a marvelous show.
As justagirl2 said, what specific role do you want? In Cinderella, you have a better shot of getting a leading role, supporting role, or ensemble role. In CATS, there's plenty of parts, but only a handful of cats get their own songs (ie Grizabella, Mistofolees, Gus, Shimbleshanks, etc). Also, it's a show that you have to be in very good shape for, seeing as there is a lot of dancing. Cinderella isn't as dancing intesfied.
I hope you have a great time in either show you choose.

If you can pull off the dancing, Cats. It is a show where a triple threat can really show the best of their acting, singing, and dancing. But with Cats, the dancing (for nearly all roles) needs to be really increadible. Otherwise, it is, to be frank, horrible to try to sit through. The dancing is one of the biggest parts of Cats that have made it such a terrific show. If you're up for that kind of challenge, I say go for Cats. Tell us what you decide to audtion for when you figure it out.

anything but CATS. yucky.
however, it might be an interesting experience for you as an actor.
but cinerella would be loads of fun too.
honestly, go for whichever one you think you'd do the best in.

Both would be sooo much fun, but IMO I would do Cinderella!

My high school just did R and H's Cinderella, it's so much fun! Plus I hate CATS...so if I were you, go with good ol Cinderella!
wow, i wish people would give Cats more credit. it is an amazing show and definitely one of my faves. very underrated. just don't hate a show because you're close-minded and couldn't bear to hear Memory one more time.
Personally, Cats is a wonderful triple threat show. And IMO i think schools and casting directors will like to see Cats on a resume much more than Cinderella because Cinderella is so trite.
But definitely and above all consider which show would progress you more as a performer. you could be doing Annie (god forbid) but it wouldn't matter as long as you grew and took something from the experience.
Cinderella! It sounds like you could easily sing the Prince's songs. He's only in one scene in the first act, but he's on for all of the second act and most of the third. It's a really fun show to do and it's not exremely demanding. Just my opinion
Personally, I can bear Cinderella more than I can bear CATS, but like others have said, while CATS really is all about the dancing it is still a musical therefore requiring acting and singing talent/skill so it is really a triple-threat show (but, really, it's more for dancers than anything else).
Justagirl2 is spot on, I think, however. Do take her advice; she seems to be the most intelligent replier on this thread! (I'm not putting down the others. Just singing Justagirl2's praises.)
