This a cool amazon exclusive. A very affordable way to build a library with some excellent gay themed titles.

There are a few foreign gay films that I would put on that list. Or at least one to replace The Birdcage. "The Boys in the Band" should be on that list.

yea, there definitely are some misses on the list, but overall it's a pretty decent set. And a super bargain if you're looking to start/augment a gay cinema section of your presonal library.
I would like to have seen Longtime Companion on there and maybe Beautiful Thing.

Dirty Laundry
Shortbus
Adam & Steve
Gay Sex in the 70's
Defying Gravity
Saved!

Eh, The Boys in the Band is so regressive now. I find it barely watchable. Beautiful Thing would have been a good inclusion, I agree. I don't see the need to have both La Cage and The Birdcage.

Children's hour is regressive as well, but as true to the time as Boys...I agree that it should be included. I also agree that including both La Cage and The Birdcage is ridiculous.
Longtime Companion would be my pick to replace it.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 4:13pmI thought that about The Children's Hour, too, but I let it slide because I thought it was good that there seemed to at least be a balance of male and female-centered movies. It could be worse though - at least The Next Best Thing wasn't included!

doodle, outside of being a very good movie in my opinion, that's why I would include it because it is true to the times. (It also has great special features) I listed "Strangers in Good Company" one, because it is my all time favorite movie and because of the lesbian in the movie. It too is true to the times especially for the character. It is only a short scene in the movie but it is quite moving.

Another favorite of mine, and I admit it's hardly a classic, is The Broken Hearts Club.
And it would have been cool if Gregg Araki had been represented.
Maybe Mysterious Skin.
Porbably too nihilistic for a decidedly mainstream set though.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 4:39pmIt seems they didnt include any of the gay films dealing with the AIDS crisis...I would assume by design...not to blur gay pride and the aids crisis...not sure I agree.

Posted: 6/2/10 at 4:59pmYou know Phyllis- Rachel Green is horrid in Object, but so many of my straight female friends have reacted exactly that way when their gay male friends have found love that it's really rather brilliant- if relentlessly squirm inducing. And there are two scenes that (IMO) make the whole film worth watching- when Nigel Hawthorne talks about what it's like when the object of one's affection doesn't return your crush with the same ardor and the end when the little girl talks about how she had more people there cheering for her than anyone else and clicks off all the members of her "Family" that came to her recital.
