I wanted to let you all know to be on the lookout for a fantastic documentary that got raves in Berlin, will be playing at the San Francisco International Film Festival, and hopefully more places around the country. It's called "City of Borders", and it's about the only gay bar in Jerusalem, and where gay Arabs, Jews, Palestinians, Muslims put aside their cultural/religious/political boundaries to be together. In the wake of Prop 8, when I read people's comments that the gay community needs to be more united to accomplishing things, this film show a beautiful example of what happens when the community does come together.
Disclaimer: I did do some work with this film, so I am somewhat shilling, but it also truly is a wonderful documentary.
"Artists are always on the vanguard of change: they give the community a vision."
"Desire comes from the Latin "de sire", or "of the father", or "of the stars". We want what is magical, what is out there, what is of the stars. And so our characters should as well."
"If there are people who don't believe in you, don't hang out with them. Wish them well, wish them peace, and move on."
