Broadway Flea Market 2016
 Sep 24 2016, 10:18:36 AM

They will indeed be back, along with made-just-for-the-flea-market posters from the Off-Broadway run of FUN HOME!

Then She Fell

I know this is an old thread, but I'm curious to know if anyone has seen it more than once? I'm going for my second time, and trying to figure out how experiences differ. If each audience member/group is on their own track, I wonder how to make sure you don't end up in the same track as the last time? Feel free to PM me if you want to avoid spoilers!
Paper Mill 2010-2011

The standard M.O. seems to be a play mid-season, and in lieu of that they're doing Spelling Bee.

But overall - an incredibly strong season with a lot of potential for some serious awesome talent. I'll be curious to see how much of the production design, staging, etc. is new, since it's almost all newer shows.

They just wrapped their press conference:

Hairspray
Les Miserables
Spelling Bee
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum
Curtains

rather kick-ass, I say!

re: Does Frank Wildhorn Film His Lyricists on Craigslist?

Well, this is the man who brought us songwriting gems such as:

"To kill outside St. Paul's
requires a lot of balls"

"Lord Devere as well
he's as queer as hell
and bi-sexuelle
likes to switch."

re: Would 'Songs for a New World' work with a larger cast?
 Oct 21 2009, 02:35:39 PM
I think the beauty of a well-done version of Songs For A New World is in using a small cast. There's more opportunity to build a story and relationship between the four characters, and between the songs. When you have a large cast it just feels like Jason Robert Brown: The Concert.
Sarah Brightman SYMPHONY World Tour

Surely she can swing by the US for another round while she's on this side of the globe?

Darn. I thought it was referring to Michael Arden - would love to hear more of his music.
re: If you were a betting person - what are the odds of Spiderman opening?

I'd wager it's probable 12 to 7.

re: Has anyone here ever actually written their own musical?

Another vote for the book first, because those songs you labored over to get the rhymes and harmonies won't matter once you cut the scene they're in because it makes no sense.

Thanks for posting! I used to have the VHS of all the Lloyd Webber music videos.

*still lamenting having missed the Symphony tour*

re: May Be A Little Far In Advance But What Will Be A Hit This Season?

If American Idiot from Berkeley Rep transfers, it'll be a hit.
American Idiot - Review of the Sunday 9/6 preview (long!)
 Sep 8 2009, 11:50:41 AM
The programs don't include a songlist, but I know it included:

from 21st Century Breakdown
-21 Guns
-Know Your Enemy
-Last Night On Earth
-one more (the director's notes say it uses four songs)

from the bonus tracks of American Idiot
-Too Much Too Soon

and then one unpublished song written for Billie Joe Armstrong's wife.

I also want to say that the whole thing has an Across The Universe feel to it, especially with it's themes of 20-so

American Idiot - Review of the Sunday 9/6 preview (long!)
 Sep 8 2009, 02:41:49 AM
Be warned, this is kind of long and rambling, as I try to parse out all my thoughts on the show.

For those of you who have the chance to see this show out in Berkeley, DO SO NOW. I was fortunate enough to snag front-row, dead center seats at the last minute for Sunday?s preview, and I am so glad I did. With Passing Strange and the soon-to-open In The Next Room (The Vibrator Play) under their belt, I can?t imagine that this won?t transfer to Broadway, where I can easily see it becoming

I wonder what would happen if Patti Lupone interrupted Gandolfini in a show, or vice versa.

This is the most wretched thing since Eden Espinoza.

(Though Tony Braxton's lowered, soulful "A Change In Me" comes close.)

Update - Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City musical
 May 13 2009, 11:29:25 PM
One of Armistead Maupin's short stories is being done as a play here in San Francisco, and in his bio he lists that the musical of Tales of the City(music by the Scissor Sisters) will be workshopped at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center this summer, with an aim for Broadway thereafter.
re: Paper Mill Playhouse seating question...
 Apr 5 2009, 09:55:32 AM
Bwaybabe - The Midtown Direct stops at Millburn, literally five minutes from the theatre. Total time from Penn Station to Paper Mill is 45 minutes - it's incredibly convenient! There's also signs and a map at the Millburn station that direct you to Paper Mill.

Also, for more affordable dining, I highly recommend Pizzeta (on Main Street in Millburn) or the Millburn Diner (right across the street from the train station).

re: Adam Guettel
 Apr 2 2009, 12:11:21 PM
I would rather Adam Guettel take his time and give us another The Light In The Piazza, Myths & Hymns, or Floyd Collins, rather than announce a new project every year that never gets anywhere anywhere. He's given us some thoroughly original theatre, and takes time to produce.

For those who prefer quantity over quality, may I suggest a subscription to "Wildhorn Monthly", wherein each year a new classic novel will be musicalized for your enjoyment.
