Ok so I have to do a presentation for class on Tuesday. It will count for like %20 of our grade. I've already got 8 slides done, but I need more. Is there any topic that you would put on there that might make it better? I have some pictures but I can't find some really good ones. Any kind of statistics or anything that might be interesting. Most of the people in my class have prob. never even heard of Broadway so I thought this would be a neat way to spread the word about the wonderful world of Performing Arts/Musical Theatre. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! :)

Be sure to include some Gilbert & Sullivan, Porter, Gershwin, Rogers & Hammerstein, Bernstein, Kander & Ebb, Sondheim DEFINATELY, and some modern stuff like Yazbek, Schwartz, and Jason Robert Brown. PBS.org has some great resources. You could show how "Disneyfied" Broadway has become but also how DIsney helped Broadway get cleaned up back when B&tB first opened. Oh wow, I SO wish I was doing this project. I wrote my American Literature research paper on Stephen Sondheim's effect on contemporary music theatre, and I just had the best time writing it.

Posted: 5/13/06 at 1:31amwhat might be cool would be to pick an angle and highlight it throughout the history of the musical. like "race in the american musical" or "gender..." or "politics..." or whatever it'd be a good way to show both the history and the importance of the art form.

Posted: 5/13/06 at 4:44pmYou could have a part where you talked about the "stars" of Broadway, and you could have a part where you talked about some of the more PopuUular modern musicals that some of them may have heard of, PotO, Wicked, Rent, etc...

I did on Broadway a year ago, so here are some ideas thatI recommend:
-Pick a composer and talk about all their shows- musically, thematicaly, etc.
-Talk about shows that were not huge sucesses when they first opened, but are now considered masterpieces today and why people's opinions have changed
-Simularly, talk about shows that were huge sucesses but are now hated by most people today (Annie, for example)
Everyone else who has already posted also has great ideas. I agree, music is crucial to the presentation, so have a cd to play.

Posted: 5/16/06 at 11:43amYEAH!! Ok so I just got done (like 10 min.) ago with my presentation. It was awesome! I worked on it last night for like 3 hours making changes and stuff. Sadly I couldn't get music to play so I didn't do that but I had a butt-load of info with a bunch of pics! I made a 100 on it...and this presentation is half of my final exam, so that's really good! Most everyone's presentation was like 8 slides long and mine was 14, lol. The only bad thing was that in the middle of my prese. the teachers computer froze (we were using his computer to project it onto the wall) so we had to pause everything and he had to close something that he had up. But then I picked it back up and started again. :p I thought it went really well...I just wanted you guys to know that, and that I also used alot of the ideas that you gave me, THANKS!
