According to the Daily Mail, Clinton is going to step down as SoS so she can relax. They don't say she's going to retire, though.
She could definitely be taking a break so she can run in 2016.
I wasn't living here for that long when Newsom was in office, but I much prefer that to what we have now. Newsom would've kicked out Markirimi, instead of ****footing around the issue.

For all the emotional talk about the grass-roots enthusiasm for Obama's run in 2008, I don't know how much that counts for compared to the poor quality of the Republican candidate. Similarly, it felt to me like they were stuck with Romney as the only guy left standing when the music stopped. For people determined to vote for "Not Obama", Mitt became their Guy, but he was never really their guy.
All of which is just to say that--smart political calculations aside--I would quit my job and volunteer for a Clinton/Warren ticket.
This is not like Stephen Baldwin's threat (promise?) to leave the country if Obama won re-election (is he gone yet?). It is a simple statement of fact.

One of my old coworkers quit to work on the Obama campaign. I'd say it worked for him.
He starts back tomorrow night. HA!

"What happened to Bev Perdue?"
She jokingly suggested before the state's rotary club that Congress should have suspended the last midterm elections to focus on the economy. The GOP sworned in and picked her apart soon thereafter. Her approval rating never topped 40 %.
Though Charles Krauthammer doesn't have a man-crush on him yet I'm confident that NC's governor-to-be Pat McCrory will make the short list of possible GOP running mates in 2016, as long as he stays on message and keeps his nose clean. He'll be rewarded for flipping the state red.
My parents down in NC joke about the new Mason-Dixon Line, the one that now separates NC and VA.

There are incalculable unknowns between here and 2016, but the infrastructure is there for Clinton to leverage. The Dems aren't going to dismantle their get out the vote machine, or throw away their social networking. Clinton will pull in even more of the women's vote, keep the vast majority of the minority vote, and probably be able to appeal to more white men than Obama.
As much as I'd personally love a Clinton/Warren ticket, I don't think it's the best electoral ticket. I think that Clinton/Schweitzer would be extremely popular across much of the country.
