Columbus Day would've just passed me by, but my husband's off work today, so I have to work while he's chilling with his laptop and playing little dorky computer games.

I hadn't even heard about some of those myths. Isabella pawning her jewels? Where the heck did that come from?

To tell Italian-Americans that Columbus did not discover America is impertinent and likely to encourage a barrage of recklessly-flung vermicelli, chunks of chicken cacciatora, and perhaps an empty wine bottle or two.

There is a Lief Erikson day, but it's not a national holiday. I prefer Bjarni Herjolfsson myself. It's not just because BJ inspired Leif to check out a land with a hilly coastline and green trees. I appreciate BJ because when he realized that landscape ahead wasn't the familiar glaciers and fiords of Greenland, he turned around and went for home. I tend to make the same mistake ;-p

The Tribune says: Financial Markets: Closed Maybe the right wing nuts are incorrect?

Courts are closed here, but they close for Pulaski Day!
