re: The BEST Acceptance Speech EVER

my favorite of all time is stanley donen's sung acceptance of his special Oscar a number of years ago. it was the sweetest acceptance i've ever seen. very heartfelt and clever at the same time.
re: favorite female broadway singer

In her vocal foch, no one touches:
ELIZABETH GARWOOD CALLAWAY

re: Can Cherry Jones sing?

I think she can carry a tune (didn't she sing in IMAGINARY FRIENDS ?) but little eydie requires someone with legit capabilities. cherry really isn't the right person for that role anyway -- she would be a fab big eydie in act II at some point but that won't be for years.

re: Curtains Reviews

I like what Brantley said about DHP: A soft sell star in a hard sell world.
Very true.

re: Happy Opening Curtains!

i think they need to cut a lot more and that they could cut more very easily. there are good things in it -- and some nice performances, but this show could have been much more stylish and fun. i wish them success.
re: Musical Heroes

also -- i love barbara carroll. today there is an article about her show in the NYT. she is one of a kind and her playing can make me cry.

re: Ann Hampton Callaway: Blues in the Night

i think THE TOO WHITE TO SING THE BLUES blues is an example of where AHC has gone wrong in her career. going for cute (when it's good and schlock when it's not) over elegance and cool. i prefer her recordings over the live performances. she can take your $50 ticket to a jazz club/ and all the $$ you spent on dinner and parking etc and make you feel like you're at a bar mitzvah. when i listen to the records i wonder why she isn't as successful as some of the others but when i see her shows it
re: Ann Hampton Callaway: Blues in the Night

I think your screen name says it all, ILTT...
re: favorite broadway soprano

barbara cook, christine andreas, and miss lupone.
also, liz callaway - who i guess is technically a soprano.

re: Grey Gardens: East Hampton is the Land of Loss

the film is hypnotic. it can make you feel that you are tripping.
re: Young Frankenstein Without Cloris Leachman

Liz's column is mostly written by minions these days and is largely comprised of press releases but someone of Cloris Leachman's age and stature may have called Liz personally to kvetch.
re: Best of Theresa Rebeck Volumes

"The Best of Theresa Rebeck"

I do love that that's a relative term.

re: Irma St. Paule dies

Someone on another site snarked that they'd heard she "was a great piece of ass".
she would have enjoyed that comment to no end and repeated it often.

re: Grey Gardens: East Hampton is the Land of Loss

don't forget all the first act moments that end with several characters simultaneously collapsing on the couch for a warm fuzzy giggle.
if only they would let ME re-do the first act....sigh...

Irma St. Paule dies

I was in a workshop with her. She was a very nice lady. Anyone else know her?

re: Rachel York on Close to Home

My friend, the incomparable Stephanie Erb, will also be a chilling part of this episode.
re: Streep to star in MAMMA MIA movie!

i would die if CHER did it.
i'd rather have mandy moore as the daughter. or anyone whose privates i haven't seen.

re: Streep to star in MAMMA MIA movie!

She didn't do Lovett because she couldn't control how she looked -- but for Donna she'll be pretty. But she is way too old for this.
re: UTA HAGEN'S ACTING CLASS on DVD (other classes on DVD?)

This is the very best recorded acting class I ever took....
