My friend is auditioning for the school musical, and she is looking for a good song for her to sing. She is not a singer, but the director told her that as long as she was animated, acted the song, etc., then she could get a non-singing role, or the ensemble, etc. So, she wants a funny song that isn't too hard to sing, that she can be really animated with. Do any of you have any suggestions? Thank you so much for your help.

Adelaide's Lament from Guys and Dolls, if you are going for something standard.

I've been in the same boat as your friend. I auditioned wtih "Sensitivity" from Once Upon a Mattress. It's totally speak-singy and kind of self-acknowledging that it's not meant for a singer. I landed the song "Little Girls" from Annie when I auditioned with "Sensitivity", which is heck of a lot of fun. I had to lower it, but take that as you will. Tell her best of luck and to act-sing her heart out!

There's also the idea of doing a non-comedy song comically. Gender-swapping can be great if you do it cleverly such as "If I Were a Rich Man". I've thought about singing "Big Blonde and Beautiful", which I don't have the voice for, because I'm skinny, pale and redheaded. Options to keep in mind.

i know this may seem quite out there, but if done correctly, i think you could get away with not singing, and maybe just speaking it more-

"Divas Lament" from Spamalot....the recording is phenomenal, but I think it worked the right way, most of it could be spoken or not sang at least....

My New Philosophy isn't incredibly funny, but it's a great opportunity to act in a song and it's not terribly hard to sing.

"Always True to You" from Kiss Me, Kate.
Pretty easy to sing. You have to be able to carry a tune, but most of it is pretty straightforward and simple.
