Conservative Christians Worried About

Oh, please....these folks are about as sympathetic as a school of parahnas!

http://headlines.agapepress.org/archive/5/182005h.asp

...One pro-family leader is worried that American Christians could be facing a new form of inquisition. Gary Bauer of the Campaign for Working Families senses that anti-Christian feelings are on the rise among some segments of America. He says he is concerned that born-again believers could be facing tough days ahead. "I'm concerned about the possibility of real persecution in the United States toward conservative Christians," Bauer states. "Harper's Magazine this week has a cover story entitled 'The Religious Right's War on America.' So there's a lot of rhetoric out there, very hateful rhetoric, aimed at traditional Christian conservatives -- and that can be very dangerous." Many Christian leaders have expressed their worry over the increase in "hate speech" aimed at Christians and the lack of public uproar over it.

It's funny that they're the perpetrators of hate speech and rhetoric. I see NOTHING in the news these days attacking Christians or Christianity; in fact, it's just the opposite. Evne programming (like that horrible Bill Pullman movie) is geared towards them.

"I see NOTHING in the news these days attacking Christians or Christianity"

Obviously you don't watch the news.

Christians have been attacked over their beliefs in the Terri Schiavo case. Christians have been attacked over the selection of Pope. Christians have been attacked over their beliefs on gay marriage. Christians have been attacked everytime President Bush mentions his faith.

Just because you have been trained to ignore it doesn't mean it isn't there.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

Let's just pick one. Bush's faith is as phoney-baloney as his ranch swagger. His ALLEGED attendance at regular bible study class was disproven when asked what verse he had studied that morning. He just glazed over like a fella who had skipped school and thought he was going to get credit anyway.

It's cute, however, that you've bought that bill of goods they've sold you.

Now, let me begin your reply for you, goth:

"But, but, buh buh buh CLINTON..."

Christians have been attacked. Gays have been attacked. Liberals have been attacked. Jews have been attacked. Muslims have been attacked. Blacks have been attacked. Women have been attacked. Everyone has been attacked.

"Just because you have been trained to ignore it doesn't mean it isn't there."

Stop whining.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

Those Christians who hold those destructive veiws on those matters have been attacked. They have not been universally attacked for being Christian, but for holding and trying to force upon others their own particular idea of what Christianity is. Just because a Christian does something and tries to hold up their faith as the rational it does not mean their action is justified or that the atack of that view is of the persons faith.

Yes some people are tired of religion in general and will attack all religious people, but this victimization crying by the group that is gaining and holding the most power and in the process currupting Christianity and the American government, is ludicrus.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

As a Christian I don't fear the media I don't fear any of that personally. I just fear for the reputation of my faith. We are not all like what you see on the news. There are Christians who support the gay community by wearing sashes at mass, there are Christians who go out of their way to help anyone and everyone that they can regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, but that is getting ignored. Instead the focus goes to the hate filled people on the news who scream that everyone is going to hell for one reason or another. Its awful. I just wish that the real message of Christianity were being spread...LOVE. Jesus spent his time with the worst society had to offer and He himself was an outcast, but He loved everyone he met. Even those who killed him, He asked God to forgive them. My greatest fear is that THAT has been forgotten.

Face it, Jesus Christ was a screaming liberal and if hE were to come back today and see these "conservative Christians" perverting his message, he'd get out his whip/microphone and sing, "My temple should be, a house of LOVE. But you have made iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, a den of rich people abusing the poor, GET OUT! GET OUT!"

"Gays have been attacked."

Stop whining.

"Face it, Jesus Christ was a screaming liberal"

If you spend your entire day listening to showtunes, I could see how you would come up with that idea. But Jesus Christ Superstar is hardly the definitive Jesus biography.

The Gospel According to Saint Mathew and the
Gospel of Luke, Gotham read the things.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

Agreed, Namo...and KelRel.
The sad part is that that segment of really fundamental Christianity crying out about persecution are the ones most guilty of persecuting others.
As usual, what the particular group wants is the ability to condemn others without having the same light shone on them.

And, GothamPC, I would contend that, as Penguin said, the condemnation in the media over "Christians" in regards to certain issues is not over their beliefs, it's in their persistence in attempting to push that belief set on everyone, even when it's clearly not how the rest of the country or world views the issue (specifically, right-to-die).

1. You certainly picked the wrong queen to accuse of spending all day listening to showtunes, big boy. I'm the one who URGES the young people around here to listen to some rock and roll.

2. Believe me, I know what the Bible says Jesus preached against, and they were power, prestige, and posessions. The big 3. ALL completely embraced by the so-called followers of his who are currently in power.

And if God was SO upset about homosexuality, as Jon Stewart asked, why didn't it even make the Top Ten?

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

That's because, Namo, Jesus was gay.
Just kidding.
It's because he spent his time on what were the only moral wrongs he saw, which were not loving God and not loving your neighbors.
He only condemned that which stood in the way of those two commandments.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

Well, if I were a conservative Christian I would be worried too, because many of the rest of us are, to borrow a phrase from Network, mad as he!! and not gonna take it anymore.
I sing for myself. I sing when I want, whenever I want to, just for me. I sing for my own pleasure. Do you understand that?

And the way he lived his life, it's just so CLEAR he'd be hanging out with the gays and not the phoneys who hide behind piety as they condemn the people he would embrace.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

Absolutely the ones who have the power are those who Jesus calls immoral, because they have abandoned God in search of material possesion. In order to follow Jesus, he asks for divisions to be set aside, be no longer connected to the love of money and power, but instead to be concerned for the whole of humanity and not to try to be good for some mythic future time, but to try to bring the kingdom of God to earth. To do this you "love God with all your heart and body and soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself."
Of course I guess the problem lies there, some conservatives are very self-loathing so it permeates into the treatment of the rest of us.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Just reiterating my love for Smartpenguin78. re: Conservative Christians Worried About
I think the problem is that, for many Christians, there's a need to feel better and it comes at the expense of others.
When your minister or your religion tells you that something is wrong, it's easier to look at a person or a group of people and condemn them for something and, thus, feel better about yourself.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

It IS wonderfully entertaining watching the group that has spent generation after generation LITERALLY destroying the lives of anyone they disagreed with or who didn't believe in their Magic Sky Person, suddenly being thrown into convulsions because suddenly a lot of Americans are saying not nice things about them. Suddenly the group that whined that 'liberals' victimized themselves over every little thing are elevating the art of crying a freaking river to levels no minority previous could ever have imagined -- all while never even remotely having your freedoms or rights threatened or lessened at all.

So, I guess to quote yourself, Gotham, 'Stop whining.'

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

And if anything pissed Jesus off it was the phoney people who judged others with their "Do as I say, not as I do," attitudes. Kind of like the endless parade of conservative Christian Republicans who are so virulently anti-gay and in fact, enjoy the homosex "under cover."

Can we all just agree that if you take a strong anti-gay stance, work against equality in our culture, you're pretty much a self-loathing homosexual?

Obviously reading comprehension is not someone's forte. I was just echoing the sentiment posted by PalJoey.

Fm, is it ok if I co-opt my new favorite phrase of yours, "enjoy the homosex"? I'll pay copyright fees if necessary.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

Very good points again Popa and Namo, Bwaysinger you are too much. re: Conservative Christians Worried About

Of course it is not sudden at all, I still remember the cries of huge persecution in areas of African and Asia, that happened when one or two missionaries dissapeared, as they systematically destroyed millions. Hypocrisy is also nothing new, but is another of those huge sins Jesus had time to talk about while forgetting all about the gay sex.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

Wait! Are you saying Jesus never mentioned the homosex?!?!?! How could this be? The singular purpose of the moral majority of the United States could be founded on, oh, I don't know, hearsay? Or conjecture?
IMPOSSIBLE!

re: Conservative Christians Worried About

It would probably help if more of them read a bible they could understand, I knew some people who would brag about reading whole books of the King James Bible in one night. Unless you are Shakespeare if you did that you learned very little.

Hearsay spread by a little frightened man named Paul, who contrary to popular belief is not Jesus.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.
