This movie was one of the best modernizations of Shakespeare I've ever seen. Anchored by the thrilling direction and performance by Ralph Fiennes, the film is well-acted on all fronts and is often horrifying in the combat scenes. (I hear Gary Oldman is terrific Tinker Tailor coming out next week, and it's exciting to see the Best Actor race heat up with some superb leading male performances of late.)
Of the ensemble Brian Cox is particularly excellent, but no one can dominate a scene like that force of nature, Vanessa Redgrave. She continues to add to the mountains of evidence why she's one of the great actresses of our time.
I've been to some pretty empty 10am movies, but this one was packed!
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
