The Today Show ran a segment about the top 10 corniest movie lines ever.
They include:
"I'm the king of the world!" -- Leonardo DiCaprio, "Titanic"
"Nobody puts Baby in the corner." -- Patrick Swayze, "Dirty Dancing"
"Is it still raining? I hadn't noticed." -- Andie MacDowell, "Four Weddings and a Funeral"
"I love you." "Ditto." -- Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, "Ghost"
"You can be my wing man anytime." -- Val Kilmer, "Top Gun"
"I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her." -- Julia Roberts, "Notting Hill"
"Today we celebrate our Independence Day." -- Bill Pullman, "Independence Day"
"They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom!" -- Mel Gibson, "Braveheart"
"You had me at hello." -- Renee Zellweger, "Jerry Maguire"
"You're a godsend, a savior." "No, I'm a postman." -- Kevin Costner, "The Postman"
Certainly we can think of others.... What would you add to this list?
"Love means never having to say you're sorry."
You complete me
You make me want to be a better person
Thanks Curtain! That was the very first one I thought of.
What about "May the Force be with you"
"May the Force Be With You" is only corny because it's been overused so many times. It wasn't corny when it came out in the movie!
I must be corny, because I love some of these lines...
A little corny isn't a bad thing!
My corniest lines are already up there..."you had me at hello" wins in my book...but i love it!
but thinking of ghost makes me think of Unchained Melody...does that song make anyone else cry? I was 6 when Ghost came out, and Unchained Melody got much airtime...my dad was in hospital and was very sick. Every time this song came on I would run and find my mum, she would pick me up, put me on a chair, and we would waltz in the living room...
Just thinking about that song makes me well up...
"I must be corny, because I love some of these lines..."
DITTO! I don't get how people can call those "corny"...most of those lines are genuinely touching! I guess i'm just a sucker for romance
Like I said, they're considered corny because so many people have used them as the *only* way to say what they want to say, and so overused them. The lines in themselves...I love them!
Addy - I'm as corny as Kansas in August, as well. Although some of those lines make me want to hurl.
It's too early for my brain to think of any actual lines, but this thread reminded me of a Judy Garland story (excuse the digression). Allegedly, she went to a performance (may have been opening night?) of Oklahoma! on Broadway. Coming out of the theater someone asked her what she thought of the show. Humorously she replied: "Well...the "corn" IS as high as an elephant's eye." God, she makes me laugh.
I'm paraphrasing:
"Oh, Moses, Moses, you silly, stubborn, adorable fool!" - The 10 Commandments

"You didn't have the feet mom, I don't have the heart." and "You're a really good dancer but as a boyfriend, you kinda suck." from Center Stage
Bestest of them all!
Good ones!
And, Andy - that is a fabulous story!

It seems we have decided corny is GOOD!
"We'll do it for Johnny. Let's Do it for Johnny" and "Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold"
-- the outsiders
also
"It can't be done. No one's ever taken anyone out of here. Not in the whole history of... the whole history! "
-- xanadu
All those rugrats saying 'I believe in you' to Robin Williams during 'Hook' was the corniest thing I've seen in a movie.

"I do believe in faeries, I do, I do!" --Peter Pan (2003)

Holy crap. There's actually a line like that in The Postman? I need to put that on my list of Movies to Laugh at When Sleep-Deprived.
Oh, and that "wing man" line never fails to crack me up. Oh, what a cheesy movie.
