If this award season unfolds with lots of attention for THE DARK KNIGHT, I probably will just stop paying attention.

Good to see Milk got a few noms.
Yes, they are campaigning for Hoffman as Supporting. Which is BS of course.

Whoa! No Revolutionary Road love? That's a little surprising. I loved The Dark Knight, but I don't think it's necessarily worthy of big time awards like Best Picture.
Is there a reason? He's not up for lead for any other film this year. Is there a sure fire male lead they're worried about>
The Lead Actor category is pretty competitive this year, which why I'm sure they are doing it.
Rourke, Langella and Penn are pretty much locks, with one of them likely to win.
And then Eastwood, Pitt, Jekins and DiCaprio are also vying for nods.
But there are some strong contenders in Supporting, too. What with Ledger and the Milk crew. I think getting a nod in either category would be about the same chances, but he would have a much better shot at winning in the Supporting category (especially since it is a lead role).
I, for one, am sick of studios pushing lead roles as supporting ones. Jennifer Hudson's win for Supporting Actress comes to mind.
In Hudson's case, she wouldn't have won that year in lead category, so I forgive that.
Yeah, but it still isn't fair. She won the Supporting Oscar for a lead role, when there were actresses that year who gave tremendous supporting performances (in ACTUAL supporting roles) that should have won.
I've long been wanting the Oscars to change the word supporting to featured.
From what I hear, Rourke is going to win Best Actor. Some of the toughest critics I know said he gave a performance that simply can't be described by words.
Bobby, Hoffman has a definite leading role in SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK which for a long time had good buzz surrounding it. Since an actor can't be nominated in the same category for two different movies, I imagine Hoffman asked for him to be pushed as supporting for DOUBT not to hurt his chances of getting a nod for his leading role in SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK (this worked for Julianne Moore, for example, who got a double nod for THE HOURS as supporting and FAR FROM HEAVEN as leading). Unfortunately for him SYNECDOCHE crashed and burnt.
Love that Meryl Streep got a nod. I feel Streep and Viola Davis will be the only nominees for DOUBT.
I thought the Dark Knight was a very good movie, and considering the critical acclaim and incredible box office it received, I would be very surprised if it doesn't get a nomination. I haven't seen the majority of the movies that are in contention yet, but I can guarantee that none will get the popular approval of TDK
