Crown Prince Alexei is Dead

Oh, I'm not "offended" by the animated Anastasia. It's fantasy, and legend. Just like the "real Dracula" who had little in common with the one Bram Stoker wrote about.

Anastasia is a kiddie movie. Can you imagine them showing them drag the family to the basement and shooting them and burrying them in the woods? THAT would be offensive!

I went through this huge fascination with all things Romanov about three or four years ago. I never really believed that any of the family had escaped. The funny thing is that all these years people have been speculating that if anyone escaped it was Anastasia, when her body was buried with the others all along. I think it was Maria that they found with Alexei, right?
I know you.

No, it is offensive because they MADE a "kiddie movie" out of such a tragic historical event. Perhaps next they should make the Anne Frank story a "kiddie movie" complete with singing rats! And her diary could actually be a Prince who was turned INTO a book by the Evil Mr. Hitler and his henchmen who want to capture the Franks so they can skin them and make coats out of their skin! But when Anne learns the lesson that "People are really GOOD at heart!", it breaks the spell and the Prince is released and takes ALL the Jews to America!
Would THAT be offensive?
They had no business making it a "kiddie film" to begin with.

Sue---You'd better copyright that idea FAST before Disney steals it.
I'm thinking Ahrens and Flaherty for the score, no?

Of course!
Because of the power-ballad with the '70s rock back-beat. "In Spite of Everything."
How could I have missed that?
Idina will do the singing voice of Annie Frank, no doubt? With the pop single by Xtina.

Yup. I did a term paper on it. The skeleton was determined to be Anastasia's because the bones weren't fused and the teeth were too advanced to be the 17-year-old Anastasia.
I always thought it was absurd to believe Alexei of all people survived. He had hemophilia; after being shot and stabbed with bayonets, he would have bled out even if they weren't lethal injuries.

Well, nobody expected YOU to wrap your pea-sized brain around the concept that a singing, dancing musical comedy based on horrific historic events might be offensive to some people.
PEACE.

"a singing, dancing musical comedy based on horrific historic events"
Ok, I'll bite. I didn't think it was based on what was known, but rather based on the slim hope of a survival that many people had carried through the years. A hope that had spawned many creative works, in fact. Why single out this piece? And how is it that different from myriad others which have bastardized and twisted history to fill a particular need?

Even when I was a kid, I never once thought for a second that the cartoon of Anastasia was real. Nor did I think Pocahontas was historically accurate. Anyone who thinks they represent real history is dumb as rocks so who cares what they think?

I don't think Sueleen thinks it represents reality. I think he's concerned about such a disturbing moment in history being used as the basis for a children's film.
Which is kind of where my question started from, as I'm not understanding the horrific event as the basis, but rather the hope for some salvagable hope from the horror.

wtf, my post got deleted? that was completely stupid and unecessary.
Well, consider the source.
DG, I have no problem making children's films out of serious subjects, but, like Disney's Hunchback, which I also found tasteless (although, of course is based on fiction) do we really need the singing animals and "three stooges" gargoyles?
And you know, offensive is a very subjective thing. If you don't have a problem with it, fine, but don't put me down because I do find it incredibly offensive.

I have been obsessed with the Romanovs since I was very young. There have been so many imposters over the decades, Anna Anderson etc. It's nice to see that this chapter is finally closed.

Yes, but would you go see an Anne Frank animated musical? I definitely would. I was never much fond of the diary, as written.
